First the student government at Western Kentucky University (WKU) demanded that black students be given free tuition to make up for historical wrongs like slavery and segregation.
Now the faculty government at the academic institution are implicitly supporting that demand by insisting the university create a fund to pay education expenses for black students and other underrepresented groups, The College Fix reports.
The student government resolution insisted that reparations for historical racism be provided in the form of full and free access for all black people. Last week, the facility decided to stand in solidarity with the students and back the support the resolution. The Bowling Green Daily News reports that 30 faculty members voted in favor of the resolution, three against and three abstained apparently following 30 minutes of contentious debate.
Following the original student government resolution and a wave of national media coverage that featured on-air interviews with students pushing for the free tuition, outgoing WKU president Gary Ransdell decided to intervene in the controversy, indicating that the university would not be adopting the students demands but would direct resources, energy and effort toward those methods that are responsible, practical and proven to achieve student success, with a particular focus on underrepresented minorities, low-income and first generation college students.
The faculty now want new president Timothy Caboni to commit to that policy by funding the educational of black students and others deemed worthy of subsidized or free education.
The faculty members also say Caboni needs to address the legacy of discrimination in Kentucky and in America that created ongoing wealth disparities that negatively impact or campus community.
Patricia Minter, who authored the resolution in the university senate, did not respond when asked why the faculty did not use the phrase full and free access in its demand, even though it is essentially advocating for the same thing by insisting that an education fund for minorities be established.
When asked by The College Fix if the universitys reparation policy should apply to all black students and not just those who are direct descendants of slaves resolution co-author Brian Anderson provided no comment.
I would be in favor of paying for their education on these conditions: They must major in a STEM discipline and they must maintain a 3.5 average.
If Western Kentucky is short on black students we can supply more from Louisiana. We can probably find the funds to pay their bus fare to Bowling Green, but we can only afford one-way tickets.
[historical wrongs like slavery and segregation]
Our nation fought a war to rectify the wrongs of slavery. America has given and given and given to minorities to assure that they have equal rights and become prosperous. This movement goes against our U.S. Constitution.
That’s illegal and unconstitutional, but that wouldn’t bother the left. This is to make blacks accept the lie that they are “oppressed” victims of Whitey.
They ignore the fact that black students get free tuition, get points added to their test scores, get promoted in spite of failure, and are given job offers out of line with their achievement.
Oh don’t forget, they get to write “black lives matter” 100 times and get a scholarship.
ML/NJ
Give ‘em free education, but demand they take REAL courses. The results will be as we expect and they’ll go back to getting money from Soros for rioting.
I have advocated “free” college education along those lines for a long time.
First, they must pass a rigorous entrance exam (like in European countries, Japan, etc). No remedial classes etc.
Second, they must maintain a 3.5 GPA or better each semester.
This should apply to ALL students.
Fixing racism with more racism. Works every time. /s
Are they going to take a cut to their generous salaries and benefits?
How 'bout this Lefty Professors: We'll cut your pay by 20%, you get your own health care, and no more book deals and forcing the books you "write" onto your students.
If that's too much, go to the bookstore and buy all the course books needed by your black students and give the books to them for free.
Yeah, right.
Thought so.
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Does anyone remember the Chinese Mao revolution. all the elites/professors, supported the revolution. They were the first to be shipped to the country to shovel manure...........
WKU’s President is likely getting the message from Kentucky state government leaders to get his folks under control. This is not California or NY.
The overpaid/underworked loons (i.e., faculty members) should pay for it. Throw these bums out. To think that they are allowed to influence srudents!!!
There are “historical wrongs” that were committed in all sorts of ways for all sorts of people of all colors, nationalities, beliefs, working classes, etc. Will there be reparations for all or just for a certain group?
This is so breath-takingly unconstitutional. Discrimination on basis of race.
In the early days of “affirmative action”, to give poor disadvantaged minority students a break, turned into affluent Blacks from often wealthy families taking up all the “poor” slots (because they could figure out the system).
Are the faculty willing to have decreased salaries and contracts to pay for this? I know some professors and teachers who cannot connect their paycheck to the source of the money (tuition, tax dollars) and that those resources do little things like pay the electric bills.
It would be interesting to see how many of those that voted for this resolution give back to the school and have ever attempted to earmark donations for mminoirities,
I think all minority groups should sue all universities ,if any have been found to support planned parenthood over the years..Since PP had racists working for Margaret Sanger and targeting blacks last 100 years, that would be accessories to genocide..Oh sorry...I forgot..Black democrats would have to read pro life material and that’s against their liberal religion...Oh well....
” What I found was LOTS and LOTS of scholarships for Blacks and Hispanics. Never did find ANY scholarships for Whites.”
You can create and endow a scholarship for blacks and other historically oppressed or underrepresented populations. You cannot fund a scholarship for whites. In fact scholarships once designated as white only have been changed by the courts to being available to any race. This is the nature of equality and equal opportunity in 21st century USA.
With respect to these professors, I have a suggestion. Let’s fund the black scholarships and stop paying the white professors. Most of this craziness is being advocated by white liberal professors. Most professors at these colleges are liberal. Let them experience the ultimate consequences of their actions.
I have another option. Western Kentucky University is a public institution paid for by the taxpayers. The advocates of free tuition for only selected races are overtly promoting racism. The governor of the state should fire these public employees for their racist actions. Again, force accountability.
And the entire thing is a cultural obscenity. Consider muslims, for example. When one of their savage number blows up innocents, all muslims give their assent by not denouncing the evil.
Similarly, we don't see the black community condemning such inequity as affirmative action, minority hiring quotas, minority low interest business loans, etc.
I was an older “transfer” student and I found two scholarships.
