“...The south lost, the nation survived, move on...”
The South won honor by winning many battles against a numerically superior foe. We honor our heroes.
The “nation survived” but as H.L. Mencken put it, what the nation lost (true statehood) it never got back.
The Confederate flag today is a great symbol against political correctness and needs to be displayed. It is a beautiful flag and I will always display it.
I like to think of the results being that the Confederacy lost but the South won by the defeat of the CSA. One of my strongest beliefs is that the Confederacy and the South were and are two different things and the understanding of the conflict is clearer when the battle is seen as Union versus Confederacy rather than North versus South.
Amen.
The confederate flag is not a flag against political correctness!!! When anyone does that, what everyone else sees is racism, then they tar anti-PC as a bunch of racists. WE ARE NOT. Well, at least most of us. Please leave the confederate flag at home.
And, yes, you might argue otherwise, but realize that 90% of the American people will and do make the association of the confederate flag and racism. Rightly or wrongly, and ignoring all the politics of the Civil War, you cannot ignore that the KKK, neo-Nazis, skinheads, and others have forever tarred the confederate flag as racist.
