Half true

Exodus 21:16
“Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death.”

Excellent post. You are 100&% correct. Everyone one of these evil men deserve the death penalty.

——The Bible clearly supports slavery ——

You are conflating two issues, but you know that...

Because of the new faith of believers in Christ, slavery became morally reprehensible over time...especially after the reformation when GODS word was no longer hidden from the masses.

Justice metted out taking another innocent life has always been seen as moral...

There are many passages where slaves are commanded to obey their masters. Jesus mentions slaves in parables. He does not condemn the institution when he has the chance. In Number 31 Moses point blank tells the Israelite men that after they kill the non virgin Midianite women (and all the other Midianites too) that the virgins are theirs to keep. It is excused, tolerated and commanded at different points.

“Moses said they can flee to the City of refuge”

That was for accidental death, which we call manslaughter. And is said to help prevent the unintentional victim’s family from exacting justice, which would have been revenge which would have been sinful.

Did Jesus speak about murder? Yes he did, especially the penalty for harming children. As far as law goes, He came to fulfill the law and not to change it one jot nor one tittle.

“What do you mean later danced on air together?”

What later was termed “Spanish Ballet”.

That you don't like the comparison doesn't make it unfair. If the standard for allowing an institution is whether or not the Bible allows it, then you are going to have to consider everything the Bible allows.

It’s not that I think it’s an unfair comparison, it’s two different concepts...

One has hundreds of years of law going back to common English law and before and the other is a biblical text not updated in 2,000 years...nor should it...

Apples and oranges...

This is the post I was responding to from post 38 ...

The Bible clearly supports the death penalty

The concept is that and institution (death penalty) should be allowed because the Bible supports it. That's all. My point is that if Biblical support is the yardstick, then we can measure other things with that yardstick.

Yes! I am perfectly willing to concede that the western legal tradition, among other things, have allowed us to improve on the moral framework laid out in the Bible.

I stopped reading Christianity Today with its increasingly left wing tilt.

As for capital punishment, I’m on the fence, but really have little sympathy for serial rapists, child molesters, or first degree murderers.

If God was against the death penalty then why did Jesus pay it for us? The death penalty is NOT antichristian or anti God.

What’s your point?

Are you a slave?

Slave descendant?

Anti-Christian with an ax to grind?

I'm not anti-christian, but I do have an ax to grind. I don't like it when the religeous want to use their texts to inform public policy. Those books are shot through with some bad ideas. If you claims divine origin for those books and try use one of the ideas in them to justify a public policy, then you eventually have to defend why all lthe ideas aren't useful to our government today.
