Trump to host conservative media at reception

President Donald Trump will welcome members of the conservative media for a small reception at the White House on Monday.

Among those attending: One America News Network, The Daily Caller and Breitbart, as well as some columnists and talk radio hosts.

“They were neglected the last eight years, and they’re an important medium to communicate to a massively growing number of Americans who, frankly, have grown tired of mainstream media’s coverage,” White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said in an interview.

The reception, Spicer said, is part of the administration's overall push to open up the White House to a “more diverse set of media outlets.” The White House has expanded which reporters they call on in the briefing room and at presidential press conferences, and they introduced Skype seats for regional reporters, talk radio hosts and others who might not otherwise be able to attend the daily briefings.

“We’ve definitely done our fair share of meetings with mainstream reporters. Once in a while it’s important to appreciate the folks who have really covered the president fairly and covered a lot of issues ignored by mainstream media,” Spicer said.

Such receptions are not necessarily new — former President Barack Obama held several off-the-record meetings with both conservative and liberal columnists and writers. Trump has held a lunch reception with anchors from the major networks and had dinner with regional TV outlets ahead of his address to the joint session of Congress in February.

Good; he has nothing to gain by cozying up to the likes of CNN. I saw some crap on their 6 am report at the airport this morning about Trump having record low ratings at the end of his 100 days. What the jerks did not put in context was that his ratings have been rising (Rasmussen had him at 50 percent), the WPost on their “poll” put on the continuation page 14 that he would beat Hillary in a rerun by 43-40 percent, and the Reps haven’t lost a significant contest as yet since he was inaugurated.

This is good news. Hope they leave the Never-Trumpers out of the festivities.

I see OAN mentioned. Thinking Trump has had enough of the Murdochs and the MSM. Someone might be thinking of starting something new??

We just started watching OAN (thank you, DirecTV!). From what we’ve seen, they don’t go overboard on interviews as FNC does (thank Heaven), but do have some good ones. Yesterday Corey Lewandowski was on “Tipping Point” with Liz Wheeler. It was a pretty good interview and the questions definitely weren’t soft-ball; she’s tough.

It’s only been a few days, so we’re not sure how we’ll like the station overall, but so far we’re happy with it! A little more polish, and OAN will be formidable competition for other cable news stations.

Trump is used to fake polls. They got him where he is today.

Actually, many of the popular vote polls were pretty close to the outcome of the election. They did miss the electoral college.

I'm sure it worries him to no end.

Let’s be honest. When they are good, he embraces them. When they aren’t, they are wrong and fake. To a degree, they do matter to him.

Let's be honest. He practices "The Art of the Deal", which includes PsyOps against the opponent. You think they matter to him. He wants you to believe that.

You simply can't explain away everything he does as an "Art of the Deal" relfex.

The pollsters and media as a rule don't care whether he's got 90% approval or 10% approval. Both are headlines and both sell. That's all they care about. Trump's core value is "applause". If he can't get it, it's your fault. Not his. Doesn't make him a bad president. It's just how he operates.

I would be much more ready to buy into his poor numbers and his response as PsyOps if it was a few outliers. Really, the only outlier of the major polling units is Rasmussen. The rest are pretty much aligned.

Interesting perspective. One would have thought that Trump's core value is protecting and restoring America.

So he went through the ultimate crucible of a Presidential campaign for "applause"?
