The wall along the Mexican border doesnt have to be made of boring concrete slabs.
It might be a smart wall filed with fiber optic cables designed to detect anyone trying to climb over or tunnel underneath it. Or it could resemble a medieval castle, with a notched top and turrets. It could be made of solar panels, or even be a work of art.
These are among the ideas submitted to the Department of Homeland Security, which is considering bids to build a barrier of some kind between Mexico and the United States.
This round of bids is actually to build a prototype for a wall, the first step in President Donald Trumps much repeated promise to build a border wall....

yes, I give solar panels about 3 days, before the MXs throw rocks and use the panels for gun practice ....such mindless folley!
Yes South. I have 37 solar panels on the ranch that feed power to my controllers on about half of our well’s and they all face South.
The cost of doing the few things I suggested are minor in cost and it doesnt change the end goal of having a border wall.
I like the idea of it having additional purposes, like energy. Love the one with the slippery black slanted panels at the top, capped with solar panels very high up. Anything lower would be vandalized.

“”I majored in zoology and have been a lifelong student thereof.””
And that means zilch to those of us who’ve spent our entire life times making a living here on the ranches in the southwest. Your worried about wildlife and vegetation when we have a full blown illegal immigration crisis? We make our livings off this land it’s vegetation and wildlife with a concern for both that far exceeds yours. We want the wall where a wall can be built and honestly don’t give a damn about it’s impact on vegetation and wildlife. About the only wildlife a wall will keep out is wildlife we don’t want on our land in the first place. But don’t get your knickers in too big a twist since the only feasible place an actual wall will be built is from El Paso west and about the only thing it will truly impact would be the Jaguar and the ranchers along that stretch don’t need anymore large predators eating away at their livelihood.
Some wildlife populations move around as the habitat changes seasonally, and obstructing their movement could cause them to starve.
In addition, dividing populations sets them on the path to speciation. True, speciation takes tens of thousands of years...
Also, some newer PV designs don't require an optimum angle for high efficiency, so the degree of southward tilt may be kind of moot.
The wall (and whatever is mounted on it) should be protected by fences on both sides - fences with a triple coil of concertina wire at the top, and a coil of concertina wire at the base. Honestly, it probably needs that more on the north side, to protect it from the nutcase progressives.
Then the USA would need to supply water. We used to flood irrigate so there was plenty of available water for wildlife then we went to drip and there was no longer any surface water so we put in places for them to drink. They adapted quickly and we have as much wildlife as ever.
Do you recall reading the threads about what prevented storm surge barriers from being built to protect New Orleans in the 1970s? Yep - wildlife activists filed a federal lawsuit against the US Army Corps of Engineers and tied up the funding until the USACE relented and spent the money on other projects.
I hope we learned something from that, but I still give this wall project about a 50% chance of being completed. Trump better have all his counter-measure moves planned.
“”The only problem I see is the jaguarondi, its habitat is in Mexico although occasionally one will stray north.””
Are you thinking about the Jaguar? We’re catching more and more Jagarundi’s on game camera in south TX every year. Seen a pair 2 years ago while hog hunting just south of Freer TX. The Jaguar has been seen on rare occasions in southern AZ, last time I recall was by a group hunting Mountain Lions with dog’s. Several pictures of that one.
“”Turtles, rabbits, mice, lizards, etc. The list is long.””
Please explain in detail how the wall will be a problem for the species you posted, since non of these are migratory animals.
>nonsense?

At present, the communists in Venezuela send the drugs to their comrades in Nicaragua. From there, it is sent north. Violence and corruption is involved at every step along the way.
This is why Trump, as candidate standing alongside the President of Mexico, said that we and Mexico share the same problem and why all of our borders have to be made secure. In believe in a world of nations, each secure in its borders, respecting each other’s sovereignty (which doesn’t excuse anybody from using chemical weapons), as sovereignty ultimately is in the people).
This is also why securing our borders is more than building a wall.
As for those bastards in Venezuela and Nicaragua poisoning our country and undermining democracy in our hemisphere with violence and corruption, they better learn that there’s a new sheriff in town. You keep your communism within your country. Spread drug crime and counterfeit money and engage in human trafficking, and you might find a cruise missile up your ass.
If the wall went that route it's reasonable to assume that problem would be dealt with; it should have occurred to the engineers.
What’s the obsession with fiber? Provide the Mexicans with tv game shows.
And YOU should have taken up your true vocation as a sanitation worker, 'cos you seem to excel at shoveling s___t, troll.
I saw a headline that indicated that one potential bidder proposed a moat for radioactive waste alongside the well.
Well, that’s how the sun rolls in the northern hemisphere. We can always run the wiring from the panels through the wall back into the U.S..
well = wall.
If you cannot answer a lot of your own questions, I wouldn’t know where to start.
I have done economic and environmental studies. There are obvious concerns to anyone that has actually researched it.
