Godjira!
“Come with me, come with me on a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea”. (A little 1961 Frankie Avalon there just for laughs 2DV!)
Didn’t we already deep mine a Soviet sub?
First “genuine” mining venture...
Sent directly to customers in China. Oh Boy, atheist China will be the leader of the 21st Century. Sadly, most of the nations of the Earth are applauding the concept. Still though, I doubt that the ocean floor mining operation will do any real damage to the ecology of the planet. The stirring up of the sea floor may enrich the local marine life.
I tried to sell this same idea to a big corporation.
They wanted a scaled-down model to prove the concept.
I bought some gold aquarium gravel and put it in a 20 gallon aquarium with water and a couple of goldfish for, well, I don’t know.....decoration?
So I wheel the aquarium into their conference room along with a shop vacuum.
They told me to demonstrate.
I turned on the shop vac and stuck the nozzle into the aquarium.
The first thing it sucks up is one of the goldfish.
The CFO must have belonged to the Cousteau Society or something because she screamed when Goldie went into the vac.
I could see that the demonstration wasn’t going well, so I hit the reverse button on the shop vac.
I was maintaining poor spatial awareness at the time, and I shot the goldfish into the CEO’s forehead.
He tipped over in his chair
I guess they didn’t see the beauty of my plan because they threw me right out into the street.
I had sushi for dinner.
I’d guess that a Soviet sub would be way more valuable by the pound than some copper ore....
That was the “cover story” for the Glomar Explorer CIA-funded “mining” ship with its inner swimming pool. Cleverly, the “secrecy” of the undersea mining covered the true secrecy of the submarine recovery planning.
Then, years later, it was actually used to try to pick up the manganese-copper-nickel nodules down there. Modestly successful. Didn’t make enough money then.
Real life Seaquest DSV?
I’m down with this. Prolly won’t make much dust either.
Clive Cussler has a few ideas about this.
The monster’s name is The Law of the Sea Treaty; its creator the United Nations.
Maybe they can try it off the coast of Nome, where it’s too deep for the divers to bother staking claims. Gather up all the gold deposits that have been washed offshore for countless thousands of years.
a fact that is causing alarm among environmental groups
EVERYTHING causes alarm in “enviromental” groups.
Maybe they can try it off the coast of Nome, where its too deep for the divers to bother staking claims. Gather up all the gold deposits that have been washed offshore for countless thousands of years.
Even if they fail to find gold, they can mine gold on Discovery channel. It works for the Hoffman family.
Environmentalist...
“This is horrible. This will destroy the habitat of the 4 spotted blind squid. It ONLY lives at this one spot they want to mine.”
Add great story teller and humorist to your tag. Thanks for the great birthday laugh.
ROTF ...you owe me a new laptop!
Sadly if the venture succeeds, the UN.
Is the mining company a chinese venture?
