All things aside this is a very nice looking semi-auto pistol.
It is a shame the the looney left controls CA. My poor friend Tom is caught in the dilemma, he wants a really nice gun, but the state of CA tells him it is an assault weapon, and he cannot own one. (He is a Marine (retired) and a retired LEO. Is this not insane?)
I don’t think I would want one anyway. Just too short for a 1911. Now a Commander or Combat Commander would be fine.
Of course if you want one that is enough of a reason. Too bad for California residents.
Try contacting this store and see if they can help you out. At least they should be able to advise you as to if this gun or a similar Colt model still is available in CA. Also, they have a store in Tucson, and if you cannot purchase it here in CA, then maybe in their AZ store.

It’s pretty alright.
But who wants a .45 with a 3in barrel?
.357 probably. 9mm probably.
But ~600fps in a caliber that often does not have enough velocity to open a hollow point bullet? I would venture that a 9mm with a 4in barrel and 125gr bullets would be more destructive.
I got a chance to shoot one. Way better than I expected. Slick and easy to use. And very surprising to see great accuracy with that channel sight. I swear it feels faster because you aren’t looking for that sight. Probably just a perception, but it felt that way.
To hell with the socialists, it is your country, not theirs! They are the inheritors of the lake of fire, that’s it. Don’t let a socialist determine your fate at the hands of freaks. They are worm food, they just haven’t realized their potential yet.
a 7 shot 1911 is an assault weapon? How the F does California get away with this crap? and Democrats wonder why they have lost the House, the Senate, the White House, 12 governorships and about 900 state legislature seats. Yeah, it was Russia’s fault. sure.
Anyone with better knowledge on the topic is welcome to correct me there.
1911 Model is cloned in other countries to make ghost guns that don’t have a serial number that the gangs use to commit crimes with.
So the 1911 clones get reported as 1911s when they aren’t at crimes.
The idiot government of Cali thinks banning this model will prevent crimes when the criminals aren’t even using these actual guns.
In other words, they are stupid.
“Colt’s New Agent 1911 — Why Can’t I Buy One In California?”
Does it go BANG?
Come on !
If he wants one That badly...
2nd party purchase?
California is NUTS for sure!
Wait till next year for the ammo Restrictions!
Colt did not submit this (or other models) for approval or renewal on CA’s approved roster. If a semi-auto pistol is not already on their roster, it will have to be able to micro-stamp brass to be added. Consequently CA shut down all new semi-autos ever being sold new in CA.
As far as CA infringing the 2a, we’re going to probably need at least 2 more supremes and somebody will have to challenge CA in a major way.
Bump
Yet right next door we have open carry. No one even bats an eye at one in Sam’s Club.
Thanks for posting this. Now, I know why my Springfield Armory M1911-A1 came with a “NOT LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA” sticker on the hard case it came with.
Assault weapon, eh?
I’m going to look for the select fire switch...
;-)
I think that this is similar to the literary tests that were just a gimmick to keep African Americans from voting back in the Jim Crow era. Gun “safety” laws like this are meant to make it impossible for a citizen to exercise a Constitutionally protected right. In this case, create so many bogus technical standards that no gun maker could follow because they are not possible or too expensive. Finally, no one can legally own a gun because any possible gun has been banned by arbitrary and bogus regulations.
He does live in the wrong state. We fled SoCal in 2015—best thing we ever did. So worth all of the hassle of relocating.
We’re now in East Tennessee and loving it. My dear hubby just bought me two new guns, just because. Want a new gun? Go to the gun store and get it. We have instant background checks.
It’s a different world here.
I am personally more concerned about CA forcing us to EITHER A) Registering our AR-15 or B) Modifying it. This must be done this year per passed law.
That definitely looks like an assault weapon to me. They probably just took off the bayonet mount to try and fool the CA gun hoplophobe regulators. /s
All of the new designs do NOT improve on the need for, nor purpose of, a self-defense weapon. The author nailed it with, “...most gunfights against an assailant are from 3-7 feet.” My 100-year-old pistol design, the Browning 1910 1955 .380 was good for taking care of Ferdinand and Sophie by a young fanatic who could barely shoot closeup. I shoot far better than he ever did, so it’s good enough for me.
