‘This is Nixon/Watergate’: Trump Accuses Obama Of Wire Tapping Trump Tower Before Election

President Trump exploded on Twitter early Saturday morning, blasting former President Barack Obama for allegedly wire tapping his phones before the election.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” he declared.

“Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wire tapping’ a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!” he added.

Trump has the authority to declassify almost any classified material, and could substantiate his accusations if he wanted to.

The Saturday-morning Twitter storm was striking as Trump and Obama had largely appeared to paper over their differences — at least publicly — since the election.

Trump needs to send out law enforcement and pick some people up. I have to assume he has a vast amount of proof to make this claim.

If this is true, the democrat party is dead meat and a long list of players are going to jail.

Never.

The neutral and usually followed headline would be “Trump claims ‘Watergate’ plot by Obama” that they put that in the headline is an overt attempt to guide the debate.

Wonder if US AG Jeff Session has enough probable cause to start monitoring Obama and Jarrett’s communications...

Good reason. I had not thought of that one. Now you know why I have been on FR so long. I learn so much.

“The Saturday-morning Twitter storm”

About six tweets, containing six thoughts, but that is a “storm.” Obviously, having more than three thoughts per day is impossible for some people.

Actually, Obama must be executed, dead , gone. So long as he lives there will be no end to the leftist mischife. There must be many others to be removed as well.

It must be quick and not drag out.

[rcp 3/3/17 Pollock/breitbart timeline]....
...4. October: FISA request. The Obama administration submits a new,
narrow request to the FISA court, now focused on a computer server in
Trump Tower suspected of links to Russian banks. No evidence is found —
but the wiretaps continue, ostensibly for national security reasons,
Andrew McCarthy at National Review later notes. The Obama administration
is now monitoring an opposing presidential campaign using the high-tech
surveillance powers of the federal intelligence services.

I read the question as rhetorical, to cement the question.

If this, then that.

Wiretapping the nominee of one’s opposition party leading up to the election should be a criminal offense in our republic. This is truly Nixonian...

We are not even clear what Trump is alleging, we do not have any idea about the source of his information, we have no way of judging whether the activity is criminal or not.

These tweets have simply created more questions than they have answered and they are the kinds of questions that are so basic they should have been made public with the allegations.

All of this reflects a half-cocked reaction rather than a cold-blooded counterattack using the full power of the federal government.

The argument that he does not have the full power of the federal government at his disposal is simply not true. He has to worry about sniping from leakers of course but that does not mean that Trump does not have the investigatory and prosecutorial power and the virtually infinite money of the United States at his disposal to pursue justice.

Well, the GOP and Dems expanded power to listen to ‘bad guys’. I never understood that they wouldn’t think .gov would never abuse that authority.

“If Hillary had won, the takeover of our government would probably have been completely irreversible.”

No doubt there. It would all be done quietly while the msm was foaming over the first female president. By the time they looked up it would be too late. For our own good, of course!
