Usually when you are anywhere nearby when a 50 BMG is being shot you would be aware of its presences by the loud sound, but thanks to a suppresser, you may not recognize the sound of this rifle.
Many know the 50 BMG shot to be one of the loudest and most painful out there. Whether you are are the shooter or not, if you are anywhere in the vicinity you will hear, and most likely, feel the shot go off.
Unless, that particular firearm is both suppressed and shooting subsonic ammo. Then you might just think someone is out plinking with an airsoft rifle. Dont think so?, go to 3:13 on the video to hear the differences between suppressed and unsuppressed. See and hear the footage here.
Range must be horrible.

A slow motion film on squirrels from 50 yards would be awesome!
If the standard .50BMG round is supersonic if fired at a distant target the target would be dead before he heard the sound of the rifle going off.Whats. The need for a subsonic round?
Bingo!
For the subsonic? Wondered that, too. Would have been a more interesting video if he’d shown a downrange result...
However, it is incredibly silenced! I wonder what the specs are on the “subsonic” round!
Sure you killed one terrorist but his buddies all go to cover. You might be about to harvest a few of those with a suppressed weapon since they wouldn’t be spooked by a first shot.
“Whats. The need for a subsonic round?”
To keep the dead guy’s buddies from locating you for counter-sniper mortar fire.
“Range must be horrible.”
I thought the same thing. I used this weapon in NE Afghanistan (661 grain bullet traveling 2750 fps).
If you have this same bullet traveling at less than 1050fps the bullet drop and overall range would be considerably poor.
Subsonic means you might hear it in time to duck! Remember the old saying that you never hear the one that kills you?
1-missed shot
2-additional targets able to shoot back.
To keep his buddies from figuring out where the shot came from?
Should be pretty easy to figure the trajectory.
I would bet that if you zeroed at 200 yds that should be good from 0 yds out to 250. Just guessing I would say the drop at 200 would be about a 18”? Probably another 6-10 inches at 250. Then it’s dropping off the planet. Good enough for man of aim from 0-250 yds. A 600 some odd gr. bullet going at even 500 fps is gonna leave a pretty good hole.
It is generally accepted that the suppressor itself masks the origin of the shot.
I can understand the value of suppressed subsonic rounds in close-quarter combat carbines or sub guns, but it is not apparent how subsonic .50 rounds would offset the loss of performance at long distances.
Subsonic rounds would also have less recoil, a good thing if you’re using a suppressor that negates most of the effectiveness of a muzzle brake.
You cant tell how quiet a supressor really is or isnt from a video. The sound impluse quickly exceeds the input level of the mic. A supressor helps both the sound impulse and felt recoil. Howeverb the recoil is not bad in the first place.

Does subsonic mean it’s more like to get stuc inthe barrel?
That would depend on how far below the sound barrier the bullet is loaded for. Get it down to 50-75 fps, and sure it will get stuck in the barrel.
