The legal definition of "immigrant" is a permanent resident and you can on be naturalized after you first become a permanent resident. A "green card" had always been the popular term for a "permanent resident" (aka:"immigrant") ID card.
That's what you get when you bastardize the language!
The solution is to stop calling every foreigner in the U.S., from illegal aliens to temporary legal workers, "immigrants."
A green card doesn’t run out. It is permanent. It does however expire and requires holder to pay up and renew.
This story is retarded. Ok, this guy has a Green Card. If he was at all informed about his situation he would know that his status never “expires”. There is no such thing as permanent residency “expiring”. All he needs to do is get the card replaced (and biometrics updated) every ten years.
In January he received a notice in the mail inviting him to a naturalization ceremony. He brought his mother.

Weeks later, he still has not received an explanation.
His green card runs out in a month and a half, as does his Massport ID, which enables him to work at Logan Airport.

This all made up you don’t get “invited” to a naturalization ceremony...you apply and go through a process..this illegal alien didn’t know how people become American citizens and he was counting on the reporter not know either...nor many people reading the article...
Plus a green card does not run out...there is no expiration date...he didn’t know that either...
