When I spoke to artist Malcolm Peacock last year in advance of his experiential/participatory artwork "Let the Sun Set on You," he reflected on the many ways in which the deaths of Black people affect history and spark movements, memorials, solidarity. Reflecting on his research for that piece, he said:
"It was interesting how history affects death, and how death affects history, depending on who dies, depending on what dies, what will determine how it's spoken about." In this new work, Peacock continues to grapple with death and violence, this time looking at Trayvon Martin, whose death (and the acquittal of his killer) spawned the Black Lives Matter movement.
With objects from 18 artists and contributors, this exhibition explores "different ways of perceiving and handling the realities of projections and inflictions of violence upon Black bodies and lives." The opening reception features three parts (parts one and two in the gallery, where visitors will be given more information; the third part is located at 1225 N. Calvert St.). The event description also states that non-Black people who wish to attend must arrive and be present with a Black person. Opening reception 7-10 p.m., exhibition up through March 4, Terrault Contemporary, 218 W. Saratoga St., 3rd floor, terraultcontemporary.com, free. (Rebekah Kirkman)
Well, it works for Rachel Dolezal and Shaun King.

Can black persons be rented for admission?*
Yes, they are lined up outside making ‘scalpers’ money!
A museum dedicated to people who get shot because they attacked armed men, interesting......
Black Lies Matter wasn’t really started until after the lie of “hands up don’t shoot” didn’t happen.
Michael Brown going to get his own museum too?
B.Y.O.B.
The abortionist has to be up there somewhere.
How much black qualifies? 1/4 black? 1/8? 1/16? Is Warren black enough if she calls herself black? What about very dark Arabs? Are they black?
Sippin’ on that Purple Drank up in da club...
I guess I’ll just have to show up in black face.
Will they parade Travon’s juvenile record?
Well, yeah. But no matter, they do not have to worry about me attending.
Let the "grill" guys sponsor it...
For a small fee, probably. You planning on attending?
Why not?
history affects death, and how death affects history,
I can believe this, sometimes. The death of JFK created the age of victims.
The death of MLK defined violence as non-violence and peace-thru-strength as violence.
Like other historical events, death allows the distortion of history. Example: MLK was not universally popular, not in the Black community, not in the white community.
In the Democrat Chicago City Council not a single Black or Democrat Alderman would vote to rename the main street through the Southside Black community for MLK for many years. Only the Republicans and far left Leon Depres supported it.
The largest Black Church Denomination and its leader, Rev Joseph Jackson would have nothing to do with MLK,both when he was alive, and for many years after his death.
But wait, many Republicans claimed Reagan was not a true Conservative (many in ACU) and many claimed he was not a true Republican but a Democrat mole (New England Prescott types). But suddenly, they flipped and invoked Reagan despite ridiculing him for many years.
And, of course, the biggee. Upon the death of a Jewish carpenters son those who claimed to not even know him suddenly were spreading his name world wide.
Can I get in if I bring along Rachel Dolezal, the pretend black former president of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP?
Or Shaun King?

They’re trying to protect the Skittles vending machines.
