Trump Files Early With FEC For 2020 Candidacy, Outmaneuvers Nonprofits

A document from the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) indicates that Donald Trump took steps last week to outmaneuver nonprofit organizations, leaving them unable to officially campaign against him over the next few years of his Presidency.

Filed on January 20th, 2017, the letter states that, while not an official announcement for reelection, Donald Trump has filed an FEC Form 2 in order to “ensure compliance with the Federal Election Campaign Act.” This is an unprecedented, although legal, move for the President to make. Barack Obama did not file for his 2012 re-election bid until April 2011. Having filed (even if not formally announcing a bid) as a candidate, Trump would be able to coordinate with PACs and other similar organizations.

More importantly, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations would no longer be able to engage in “political speech” which could theoretically affect the results of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election without running the risk of losing their nonprofit status. The move effectively bars interest groups from creating nonprofits which they could funnel money into for the purposes of opposing Trump’s initiatives. This will likely create chaos for political opponents of Trump such as George Soros, who has sunk significant amounts of money into various nonprofit groups with the intent of opposing Trump’s government. How 501(c)(3) organizations will comply with the FEC’s regulations when participating an actions which qualify as political speech remains to be seen.

The move is consistent with Trump’s campaign promises to reduce the financial influence of private special interest groups on Washington.

Case in point I read today that Kelly Ayotte will be guiding Gorsuch through his confirmation hearings. Normally my first reaction would be why her, RINO. Now I see this as him picking someone who can effectively make a case for fence sitters especially Dems in Red States. Hard for Press to attack her in interviews and for Dem Senators to be nasty to her.

I’ll see if I can find it. There was a thread here about a week ago and one post said that three Federal “alphabet” agencies (I only can recall CIA) had been working with Soros in different ways. Trump ordered that to stop.

If I find it, will post link for you. (Maybe others recall where this might be?)

2 weeks on the job and he is planning 4 years ahead.

When he was running, a lot of people couldn't understand how the detailed complexity of building towers was good preparation for the top executive job. While a tower itself might take a year or less to construct, the prepartatory negotiation maze of bureaucracy, politics, financing, media criticism and political squabbling takes much longer. Just after the final approvals there is another long stream of interior design, staffing, marketing and advertising that is also complex and time-consuming. Just last year, The Donald and Don Jr had to take a full day off of campaigning to give depositions in the case of a restaurateur who backed out of a contract to be the top chef of the new Trump International Hotel in DC over Trump's statements about Mexico sending us their rapists, drug dealers and criminals. I can only imagine that any major project attracts similar conflicts over various issues, with accompanying time-drains for lawsuits.

This entire presidency is proof of the ancient concept that elders have wisdom due to experience. They're not necessarily smarter than all the upstarts; but they've seen and experienced more, and have been doing it much longer. Someone recently observed that most of these smarty-pants reporters are in their 20s and 30s; where Trump has been managing the media for 40 years.

Wasn’t this an incredible factoid?

Who would even think of this?

I’m ten steps behind this guy, and I’m supposed to be the one calling him on not sticking to his promises.

LOL

Agreed. I was gobsmacked when that idiot took a pickaxe to his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And touched when that black homeless woman set up camp on top of it to protect it.
