Inside a Maywood laundromat, Hector Cruz waited amid the whir of spin cycles with his infant son. Although the 25-year-old arrived from Mexico without documents, he found a job at a car wash and feels safe within the tiny town that proclaimed itself a sanctuary city a decade ago.
Now the emergence of President Trumps long-anticipated crackdown on illegal immigration has Cruz envisioning immigration raids, deportation, a fractured family.
Once places of refuge, so-called sanctuary cities have become targets, where residents worry that any concern for their welfare could be trounced by their communitys need for government funds.
But while anxiety and fear swirl in hundreds of cities across the nation that chose the largely symbolic designation so too does defiance....

Maywood had some protests years ago and they hoisted a Mexican flag at the Post office.
Nasty affair IIRC.

Don't you just love the way they twist the language to paint a benign picture? They make it sound like he waltzed off a commercial flight, went to hail a taxi but then slapped his hand to his forehead and exclaimed "I forgot my wallet back home. It's on the dresser!"

They are not contributing to anything. They pay no taxes, and work for less than minimum wage. Many of them are caught in human trafficking situations, which is basically slavery.
When funds are cut off to these “sanctuary cities”, then perhaps those cities will realize how much allowing illegal aliens to live outside of the system really costs. With federal funds pouring in, they are shielded from the consequences of their own decisions.

In the 70s and 80s, I remember seeing the immigration vans tearing through Orchards in the San Joaquin Valley, hot on the tail of a group of them, Pray we see that again.

Good. Being a criminal should be tough. They should back home and re-enter legally, or stop whining.

These politicians are the lowest form of scum. They sell out their fellow citizens, avert their eyes when confronted with a mother who has lost a child, all for votes. Really, is there anything lower?
