Days before his inauguration, President-elect Donald J. Trump is engaged in a high-profile feud with some of the countrys most prominent African-American leaders, setting off anger in a constituency already wary of him after a contentious presidential campaign.
Mr. Trumps criticism of Representative John Lewis of Georgia, a widely admired leader of the civil rights movement, has prompted a number of Democratic lawmakers to say they will not attend his inauguration on Friday.
Blacks around the country have reacted to Mr. Trumps remarks with fury, and the subject has dominated social media and discussions among black activists. Mr. Trump said on Saturday on Twitter that Mr. Lewis, who asserted last week that Mr. Trump was not a legitimate president, should focus on his district and the burning and crime infested inner-cities.
The angry reaction is driven not only by Mr. Trumps Twitter posts but by what many blacks say they reveal about the president-elects lack of understanding of the reverence with which the civil rights movement and its leaders are viewed by African-Americans.

Lewis.
No outrage amongst blacks whose opinions actually matter...
Sorry libs, it's not "Trump's war with Lewis", it's "Lewis' war with Trump". Trump just happens to be fighting back.
It's appropriate on this day to note that Lewis has been judged not by the color of his skin, but rather by the content of his character. The content of his character has been found to be sorely lacking.
FAKE NEWS!
So this guy John Lewis marched in civil rights back in the day. Very good. He probably has plaques and pictures to hang on the wall. What has he done the past 28 years in Congress? Absolutely nothing of value, evidently. And Trump is right to call him on it.
Contribute or get out of the way.
John Lewis is a disgrace, should be censured, then removed from all committees so he has no more power than a popcorn fart.
