TSIHOMBE, Madagascar She is just a frightened mom, worrying if her son will survive, and certainly not fretting about American politics for she has never heard of either President Obama or Donald Trump.
What about America itself? Ranomasy, who lives in an isolated village on this island of Madagascar off southern Africa, shakes her head. It doesnt ring any bells.
Yet we Americans may be inadvertently killing her infant son. Climate change, disproportionately caused by carbon emissions from America, seems to be behind a severe drought that has led crops to wilt across seven countries in southern Africa. The result is acute malnutrition for 1.3 million children in the region, the United Nations says.
Trump has repeatedly mocked climate change, once even calling it a hoax fabricated by China. But climate change here is as tangible as its victims. Trump should come and feel these childrens ribs and watch them struggle for life. Its true that the links between our carbon emissions and any particular drought are convoluted, but over all, climate change is as palpable as a wizened, glassy-eyed child dying of starvation. Like Ranomasys 18-month-old son, Tsapasoa.

BS, drought come and go.
I wonder was it man-made global warming that caused the 7 year drought during the days of Joseph? ...I didn’t think so.
You mean Obama killed those kids? America didn’t cause their drought. Preposterous dog dung.
Obviously this fool has never been to China, talk about carbon emissions.
“Climate change, disproportionately caused by carbon emissions from America, seems to be behind a severe drought that has led crops to wilt across seven countries in southern Africa. The result is acute malnutrition for 1.3 million children in the region, the United Nations says.”
Well, if the UN says it, it must be so. Standard “blame America first” shit.
Sad about the little boy but we should be mindful that temperatures that are too cold kill many more people than too warm.
Net net is that warming saves more people than are harmed.
The ratio is about 15 to 1. Increasing co2 also makes plants more drought resistant. Floods and droughts will continue in the future just as they have afflicted humanity in the past. Isnt it nice to know that there are some positive effects from rising temps and co2 gases?
Notice also the use of the weasel word “seems” in attributing the cause the drought to warming...
Fake science.
Oh, for Pete’s sake, WTF...
China emits about double the “global warming gases” that the U.S. does. Although I guess if you base it on a per capita basis, the U.S. is “disproportional”.
It is ALL a moot point though. The primary factor in keeping our heat in is NATURAL water vapor - which accounts for about 95% of the greenhouse effect.
Does Nicholas Kristof ever get tired of telling baldfaced lies? Or perhaps he is required to tell such outrageous lies as a condition of his employment with the New York Lies (um, I mean the New York Times).
Guess the nutso never heard of stone soup. Or nopalitos. I have some homemade cactus jelly in the pantry right now. Yeah, I know, sugar might be a problem for those people but pointing out cactus is edible.

I now have Thomas Dolby running through my head. Thanks for the earworm!
The Golden Age of Wireless is one of the best albums of 80s.
I’ll be sure to burn my plastic bags here in the Philippines...wouldn’t want the US to get all the credit for climate change :-)
That picture of the drying out river looks EXACTLY like many in Texas not long ago. Rivers flow. Rivers dry up. And the cycle repeats just like it has for centuries.
There’s enough water in the river and underground by the look of the trees to grow their own vegetables. BBQ some of those cows or are they so sacred and that’s the real reason kids are dying. But, no, they never seem to be able to help themselves and wait around for someone else to bring in food, clothes and medical supplies.
Madagascar experienced critical food shortages due (at least in part) to drought in 1992 and again in 2003. The droughts in Northern Africa in the 1980s have been blamed on aerosol pollution from the Northern Hemisphere shifting rain bands deeper south than usual, and the end of the droughts on clean air regulation that reversed the trend. The utter garbage they publish to justify socialist policies would be laughable if there weren’t so many willing to believe it without evidence. Elementary schools are teaching this as scientific fact before they even introduce the concepts of causality and correlation. Indoctrination indeed.
solar activity, under water volcanoes, angle of the earth’s access vis a vis the sun, none of this man controlled.
