Priebus: Trump doesn't want to 'meddle with Medicare or Social Security'

Incoming White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus on Sunday suggested President-elect Donald Trump stands by his campaign vow not to cut Medicare.

"I don't think President-elect Trump wants to meddle with Medicare or Social Security," Priebus said on CBS's "Face The Nation."

"He made a promise in the campaign that that was something that he didn't want to do."

The president-elect does plan to grow the economy and help "shore up Medicare and Social Security for future generations," Priebus said.

"And if we can get 3 to 5, 6 percent growth, we'll do that," he said.

"And we'll explode the economy, and bring jobs back, and make trade more fair across the world, lower rates for everyone, and I think hopefully get businesses going again so people can put more money in their pocket."

During the presidential campaign, Trump said he did not want to change the popular program.

“I’m not going to cut Social Security like every other Republican, and I’m not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid,” Trump told the Daily Signal last year.

Entitlements, including Medicare and SS, must be drastically, if slowly, reduced. I propose a 3% across-the-board reduction in all federal programs over a minimum 10-year period.

I propose they raise your taxes 3% per year to make sure my Social Security and Medicare continues to be funded...

Well, I was hoping somebody would stop the wholesale theft of SS funds. Al Gore’s father and his buddies in the DemocRAT congress opened the door so that people WHO HAD NOT PAID INTO SOCIAL SECURITY .. WERE STILL ELIGIBLE TO GET FUNDS FROM IT.

This is why they’re always whining about running out of funds.

I didn’t know every other republican cut social security. Democrats are the ones that robbed the funds, and now they are giving it to newly landed immigrants that never paid into it.

And do away with giving it away to newly arrived immigrants that never paid into it.

You are right in that SS should be a "closed" system. Accessible and utilized by only those who have paid into it.

And no disability either. Friggin slush fund for whatever now.

Agreed. I’ve paid into SS, and Medicaid for 52 years. I won’t live long enough to get my money back much less any imputed interest. A way to shore up SS is to make it tax free.

That is a big problem. The cuts effect service and restricts it.

Medicare is our primary Tricare Life is Secondary, neither cover needed items. Or restrict what is covered. Low/slow reimbursement makes finding docs hard especially if you are in the market for a new Primary. The one we have can’t handle multiple health issue patients. A 10 min ins doc who can’t get your scripts right even when you print them out for her.

Does not cover items like hearing aids, glasses or orthotics for non diabetic people with Peripheral Neuropathy. Just the Doc and meds. Neurologist will tell you PN is PN regardless of what causes it. So why are Diabetics treated better? When a medical condition needs what is considered a ‘cosmetic’ fix, it’s not covered, even if for medical reasons.

We were DOD MANDATED to use the Military Base Pharmacy or FRAUD prone Express Scripts for all our daily meds. Clumsy system. You fill at the base, refills come for our area out of Pensacola takes 5 days, ES is a month to fill and 2 weeks to refill NO ID sign for and we are talking nearly $3K in 90 day meds. We get our neighbors too seems Post Office can’t read the addresses. They come in a plastic bag, regardless of temp and moisture. Base is closed all Fed holidays, and after 4 pm and week ends. E script is down half the time. Not designed for handicapped seniors either, just walk in active duty.

Prayers for you. We have family members who are Military, but young so not yet dealing with a lot of the problems you discussed. I sure hope Trump will address ALL the problems that our Military has. For us, 2 years ago my new glasses cost $125. This year my husband’s glasses will cost $450. No change in insurance either. WHAT A MESS FOR US ALL!

The “meddling” that needs to be done is to out and punish all the fraud. SSI for those with fake illnesses, accounts under several names, doctors who bill for services never rendered, etc. must be dealt with severely.

Well .. it’s going to be an even bigger mess to “meddle” with if they don’t stop the money drain from it.
