DiogenesLamp: "In the past, these big city titans of finance and globalism were called 'Republicans.' "

Only after CW, before that they were all Democrats and political allies to the greatest international traders of their time: cotton growers.

Indeed, even after CW before 1900 New Yorkers voted Democrat more often than Republican -- beginning in 1868 New Yorkers again allied with Southern segregationists.

Of course, New Yorkers liked progressive Republicans, and voted for them consistently from 1900 until FDR in 1932, but since then it's been Democrat all the way.
The last Republican to carry New York was Reagan in 1984.

Bottom line: nearly all these great evil-doers who so, so vex your mind were then, are now and will continue to be Democrats, not Republicans.

Reily: "German tanks used diesel! I knew that even as a kid.
Also as I remember the movie it gave little mention of Bastogne."

That's a common misunderstanding which I myself was surprised to learn is untrue.
In WWII, only the Soviets used diesel in their T-34 tanks.
Every other major force, including the Germans, used gasoline.

So that fuel dump was indeed a big deal.
Even more, the whole effort was Hitler's attempt to repeat what Rommel had accomplished in North Africa, when he overran British posts, capturing fuel & other supplies kept there.

WWII Japanese tanks were crappy POS but they had two things going for them: good optical sights and diesel engines.

Thanks for setting me straight on that.
Soviet & Japanese tanks = diesels.
All others = gasoline.

Right?

All Jap tanks were diesel. Not sure all USSR tanks were diesel. They "leased" a lot of tanks from the USA and GB. Plus some of their own indigenous tanks may have been gasoline. I am not sure.

Yes, I can see the state voted to support the Democrat in the 1860 election. You can tell because New York is the same color as the Southern states.

I think you are too caught up in labels. If you simply notice that the people in question are Arrogant and Wealthy Liberals living in heavily Urban environments who want to impose their financial conditions and their morality on the rest of us, you can accurately define the bad people in both 2017 and 1860.

Wealthy Big city Liberals used to be Republicans, but since LBJ flipped the black vote (and therefore the government money supply) to the Democrat side back in 1964, now Wealthy Big city liberals are Democrats.

Boston, San Fransisco, Chicago, Washington D.C. and New York are all ran by wealthy big city liberals, same today as in 1860. Their states go along with what their controlling cities decide, and those are always ran by wealthy big city liberals.

DiogenesLamp: "Yes, I can see the state voted to support the Democrat in the 1860 election. You can tell because New York is the same color as the Southern states."

You're looking at the wrong map(s).
Upstate New Yorkers, then as now, were strong Republicans.
New York City & surroundings, not so much.
Here we can see that from 1856 to 1860, even while those evil-rascally Republicans spread from Upstate New York toward downstate, New York City & surrounding was still solidly blue:

1856 by counties, blue = Democrats, red = Republicans, yellow-brown = Native American, "Know Nothings":

1860 by counties, blue = Democrats, red = Republicans, yellow-brown = Constitutional Union, green = Southern Democrats:

And here we can see that in 1868 enough New York red Republican counties turned blue Democrat to flip NY back to the Democrats.

DiogenesLamp: "If you simply notice that the people in question are Arrogant and Wealthy Liberals living in heavily Urban environments who want to impose their financial conditions and their morality on the rest of us, you can accurately define the bad people in both 2017 and 1860."

Those were Democrats in 1860 and Democrats today.
The real difference is that in 1860 Northern Democrats allied with Southern cotton producers while today they ally with descendants of cotton producing slaves.

1860 Republicans -- whether radical abolitionists or "moderates" opposing slavery's expansion -- were very different kinds of people.
Where Democrats represented Big City immigrants and large mercantile interests, Republicans then & now are mostly farmers, small towns, small business and suburbs.
