In an interview with 60 Minutes last month, President-elect Donald Trump made yet another pledge to remove undocumented immigrants from the United States, saying he would deport up to 3 million of them who have criminal records. Similar promiseslike building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, and blocking federal funding to so-called sanctuary citieswere a cornerstone of his campaign. But as he assumes the presidency, Trump will face not only continued public opposition to his plans, but potential obstruction by state and local law enforcement who he would need to implement any new policies.
In many cases, federal immigration agents rely on local and state police forces to identify individuals who are in violation of immigration laws, and if so, to turn them over to the Department of Homeland Securitys immigration-enforcement arm. Rick Su, a law professor at the University at Buffalo who has researched immigration and local government, explains the significance of the cooperation this way: The fact of the matter is, local law enforcement in this country encompasses the vast majority of law-enforcement resources. He added: As much as we talk about federal policy and the growth of the federal government, their capabilities are quite limited given how large the country is.(continued)

Gladly.
Most of them, anyway.
It’s amazing the power that is vested in the hands of the President of the United States. Trump will be able to move mountains. a handful of whiny ass liberals will not be a problem.
Any employee not doing so should be immediately terminated.
Are these the same supporting state agencies that will lose federal funding if they go against the will of the people?
They must enforce the law. They’re not able to pick and choose what laws they’ll enforce, legally speaking.
The rank and file will be for him. It is the liberal mayors and police chiefs who will oppose him. And they will continue to break the law and harbor illegal aliens until Trump withholds funding.
My local police chief will be glad to detain illegal aliens and hand them over to ICE for deportation.
He has expressed frustration at the federal government refusing to do their duty.
For most large i.e. "sanctuary" cities, we are going to need some promise of total immunity for officers who arrest illegals. Not just from prosecution, but also from termination and discipline, as they will be in direct violation of the mayor's and chief's orders.
Wow, their world really has ended.
YES.
They didn’t stop Obama.
What gets me is how they think that defending criminal, job-stealing and welfare abusing illegal aliens is a winner for them in 2018, 2020 and beyond.
Will local LEOs support a program to allow the feds to pay to remove dangerous felons from their jurisdiction?
Does a wild bear.....

Yes. Next question.
Local cops have been begging for the feds to do their job.
They voted overwhelmingly for Trump. No problem.
If by “law enforcement” they mean big city police chiefs who are political hacks serving leftists mayors, no. If they mean elected sheriffs and rank and file officers, yes.
“...Trump will face not only continued public opposition to his plans...”
I don’t think so........
I think is more of a “hope piece” than based on reality - at least for places other the big cities.
