You may not recognize Josie Ramon’s face or even her name, but if you’ve been following the wave of anti-Latinx harassment that’s accompanied Donald Trump’s political rise, there’s a good chance you’ve caught a glimpse of what the Michigan tween’s life was like in the days following the 2016 Presidential election.
Ramon, who is 12, was a student at Royal Oaks Middle School outside of Detroit during the final months of the presidential race. On November 9, just one day after Donald Trump was elected president, Ramon was sitting in the lunchroom at school when a group of students began chanting one of Trump’s oft-repeated campaign slogans: “Build the wall.”
Ramon, a seventh grader, pulled out her phone and began filming the scene, later sharing the footage with her mother, who in turn shared it with another student’s parent. That parent uploaded the short clip to Facebook, where it quickly went viral.

But for Ramon, the video’s viral reach didn’t solve the proliferation of Trump-inspired harassment—in many ways, it only made things worse. In a new interview with CNN, Ramon described how she was castigated and ostracized by her peers for having filmed their bad behavior.
“People would see me in the hallways and turn around and walk the other way,” she recalled to CNN. “I felt like an animal.”
According to Ramon, several of her classmates’ families even called for her expulsion for shooting the incriminating video in the first place. The atmosphere at school turned so toxic that, despite efforts by the school to address the incident and its impact on the student body, Ramon withdrew from Royal Oak and enrolled in public school instead.
Nevertheless, Ramon told CNN she has no regrets.
“If I had to go through this again to help everybody else who’s Mexican-American, I would do it a thousand million bajillion more times,” she said.

Ramon is her last name. Her first name is Josie. Probably people here are being thrown by the PC baloney designation “latinx” which makes you assume it’s a tranny or something.

It's just wrong on so many levels and the children who did this to her should be punished forthrightly. And quite frankly, many of the responses to this on FR give us a bad reputation of being unjust.
I don't think that Trump would approve of this kind of bullying.
“Build that wall” is a hate crime and harassment?
How about “LatinXX” and “LatinXY”?
Ramon is the last name. This is a 12 year old girl.
I can see her at that age getting upset about the "build that wall" chant, but that's very typical for kids that age (and even older). It's just the kids who viewed themselves as "winners" (the ones who preferred Trump) ribbing a kid who they perceived of as being a "loser." Call it "bullying," if you will, but there's no violence here.
BTW, judging from the story, this was a private school in what we know is a nice suburb, because we are told the the girl transferred to a public school. So I'm guessing that all or most of the kids involved here come from fairly affluent families, including Ramon herself.
The Local Radio WJR760 Frank Beckman has had this story on his show quite a bit. Alicia Ramon the child's mother is a open borders activist as well as a local lib causes activist and it is reported/insinuated that she used her daughter to get attention for herself.
This morning a WJR760 interview said lawsuits are pending by the parents due to Alicia Ramon posting videos of minor kids and name...address on social media. (I am from this area)
The whole point of the liberal lunatics is to try to remove all sex references. Change the language to change the culture. They will fail miserably.

The kids and parents are all U.S. citizens born in this country. They had no reason to make this silly chant by excited Trump fan-students a “racist controversy.”
They have absolutely nothing to fear from Trump. They deserve every bit of scorn they now receive.
Since Spanish is a Romance language that "assigns" male or female gender to every noun, pronoun and adjective, it's going to take some pretty extensive surgery to make it gender-neutral.
Roughly analogous to having surgery to change every cell in your body.
The posted article is wrong, judging by the video that accompanied it. The incidents reported in this article took place in a PUBLIC school, and the 12-year old girl, Jessie Ramon, who was a target, transferred to a PRIVATE school. The posted article implied the opposite.
In any case, it is likely that Jessie Ramon comes from a fairly well-off background, because her family could afford a private school in a solid middle class suburban area. Kind of contradicts the usual MSM stereotype of Latino kids in poverty.
Isn't it easier to use Latina for a female and Latino for a male. I thought that was standard.
As depicted, the situation reeks of harassment. But CNN is not a credible source of information.
