Much better to have 100 one megaton bombs.

Much, much better.

What’s important to some is that Putin is always right. These are people who are not philosophically conservative, meaning smaller government and more individual liberty. These are people who fell in love with an anti-American dictatorship because Obama was a horrible president. They don’t care about Putin’s attack’s on law, his own nation, other nations or anything. They just adore the loose and flabby, titty-ed Putin.

I thought they would just put a nuclear bomb in a satellite for disguise, then detonate it at a surprise. Using a nuclear suicide submarine? Sounds like something out of a comic book or sci-fi movie.

Great read.

Now I’m terrified again.

Of everything.

Even my cat. ESPECIALLY my cat.

Actually quite a strategic coup. If the Russians had or even were just purported to have such a weapon, then no other country that engaged them in war could never push them to total defeat or annihilation. The “ victor” could never be sure of what may come. Just the sort of thinking that a nation in love with chess would concoct.

This article is over the top on hype.

Even if they have a 100 megaton bomb, it is a fraction of 1 percent of the power of a tsunami. The 2011 Japan tsunami released the equivalent of 9,300 gigatons of TNT (or 9,300,000 megatons).

How dangerously paranoid is a regime that thinks it must imprison an all-girl punk rock band for praying to the Virgin Mary to save Russia from Vladimir Putin?

There's a little more to the story than that.

Can’t do it. Such a bomb would kill a lot of fish. They’d be in big, big trouble with the EPA.

Arguably, it is a big nuclear mine, and may be categorized as a tactical nuclear weapon, despite its enormous yield, and therefore not limited by New START

Actually, the TSAR bomb was also a tactical weapon. No missile could have carried it, a bomber couldn't have made it through NORAD defences.

The plan was 5 airburst TSAR bombs, dropped just over the frontier into W Germany, everything fried. WARPAC tanks roll virtually unopposed to the Rhine and beyond.

Wow, this is really really interesting. Meanwhile, our ICBM’s need 8” FLOPPIES to upload targeting data.

That is not a typo, btw.

I doubt there was anything accidental about this release. It appears to be a typical Russian propaganda of the old Soviet way.

I think it is important the context of this weapon.

It would not be used in any other than the scenario where about (guessing) 5 to 20 thermonuclear weapons would be dropped on top of every Russian city and military base. Moscow would be hit by over 100.

Russia may destroy us utterly, but they would not “win”.
