I asked someone with very minor IT abilities about this once. They said:”There’s always a work-around.”

It’s not just ad revenue. How much banking and general bill paying is done via Internet? How much actual merchandise is sold? How many people make their living online? Books? Movies? TV? Music? Even the MSM is becoming all electronic.

If we become like China with firewall controls that curtail research and discussion, how long before the talented overcome the filters? If they think TOR and the Deep Web are the wild west now, just think about what happens when EVERYONE is actively evading censors. Nothing at all will get done as every po’d coder decides to harass the PTB.

Outlaw the Internet and we _all_ become outlaws. They need to become careful what they wish for. They can force us into a single Global State and the next Civil War will be a planet-wide revolution.

Two things I have learned in life is that: (1) the smartest people don't run the government just the ones with the biggest mouths and egos and (2) the private sector will always outperform and beat the government when it comes to ingenuity and solutions for problems. It would take an hour to explain all of the reasons why but the bottom line is there is much better talent in the private sector.

The ones thinking they are in control may find themselves trapped by the very controls they put into place to comtrol others. Now wouldn't that be fun to watch...complete with a HAL AI that say, " I'm sorry but I can't let you do that to the American people. That's unconstitutional and logged at 8:38 am, December 20, 2016, Hillary Rodham Clinton...: )

”There’s always a work-around.”

And there are always ways to "fix" the work-arounds. Yes, it would be a constant, ongoing technological battle but how many people are really skilled enough to play on that battlefield. The NSA has plenty of talent and a huge budget. And when you consider the penalties for going up against the govt most people will simply choose to sit on the sidelines and take what comes.

TOR was compromised a decade ago. Placing just a few govt controlled TOR servers in the network allowed the govt to use the traffic going through their servers to gather enough information to break the math and trace back TOR users. And the deep web is full of honey pots. Touch the wrong site and you immediately become a person of interest. If you would like to read a good (though quickly becoming outdated) book on the deep web I can highly recommend Thieves Emporium
