Battel of the .22 Pistols
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 12/7/2016 | J Hines

Do you like to shoot the .22 pistols? Have you tried the Ruger Mark 4, or the S&W Victory Pistol?

The all-new Ruger Mark 4 Pistol has lovers and haters. On the other hand, the S&W competition, the Victory Pistol, equally has fans and non-fans.

The guy from 22 Plinkster fired both and examined the pros and cons of both pistol models. He goes over which one is more simple to work with as far as taking apart and which has the better grip.See the full action here, what about you, which one do you like to use for plinking around?

My first 22 semi-auto was a Colt Challenger. Roaming the Glades in the 50-60 it was a charm. I wanted the Woodsman but $$$ were short.
I also carried a Marlin 39A. Together, in a canoe, was Heaven.

I have the S&W Victory .22 to which I added a Volquartsen lightweight barrel, the 6.75” carbon fiber one.

I had to also add a little vortex venom 3 moa red dot to it, there is a standard picatinny rail on the pistol and no sights on the barrel. It shoots great for what it is, a $395 target pistol.

The one negative is the takedown screw which makes cleaning and re-assembly super easy but the screw has an annoying habit of loosening after about 250 rounds. I’ve solved the problem by about 90% by inserting a small #61 rubber washer in with the screw and really tightening it hard...

I put it in my gas grill and maybe 15-20 minutes later took it out. To my surprise, the slide was warped. I have thought of ordering just the slide from Numrich etc. but never got around to it. I still have the bottom part or I guess they call it the frame.

Dude! If you have a warped slide, YOU CAN SHOOT AROUND CORNERS!

It'sa FACKT!

That’s on the buckmark. The that goes across the top holding the red dot. You gave to dismantle it all. That spring is tricky tii sometimes. The mkxx suck too.

That's what they fixed on the Mark IV.

Watch this very short one minute and 20 second video. Your optic stays attached to the barrel, and maintains zero, and the disassembly process is one button press:

I hadn’t thought of that.

Now all I need to do is bend the barrel to match.

You don’t clean a .22 pistol except to wipe off excess powder flakes. I haven’t cleaned the barrel of my .22s, rifle or pistol, since I got them. They just keep getting better.

I have two older .22’s that I enjoy on rare occasions; a Colt Woodsman and Model 41 Smith & Wesson. For most plinking, it’s either a Ruger 22/45 or Smith & Wesson Model 617 revolver. The Model 41 is my favorite.

I have a Sig 22 that fires very well as long as it is CCI.

Not bore accurate but I can place as long as I know the area.

Ruger was great until they put all the useless extra safety stuff on the MK3.

Yep. I love my Mark I (Bull Barrel). Thought about getting something newer, but it still ‘drives tacks’ and never fails to function.

I have several, including the Ruger Mk4. But my favorite is my Smith & Wesson 617 revolver. Its a 10 round DA/SA and it is very accurate. It is a little expensive but it is not made cheap.

Love my H& R 676 revolver in .22lr and Magnum.

Speaking of ammo, do all these .22 owners make their own?
Or are they independently wealthy?
I haven't been able to buy .22 LR for years...
