The attempt by Kookers Kare to donate 4,000 lbs. of leftovers from the American Royals World Series of Barbecue to a local nonprofit organization called Hope City was thwarted by the Kansas City Health Department. The food donation has traditionally fed thousands of homeless persons in Kansas City for decades without complaint or incident. This time, however, the donated food was ordered destroyed by the Kansas City Health Department.
All of that food was uninspected, so that makes it from an unapproved source, it cannot be served to the public, Operations Manager Joe Williamson said. It doesnt matter that both sides of the transaction were satisfied with the arrangement. It doesnt matter that the homeless recipients relish getting these award-winning leftovers. The government sets the rules that everyone is obliged to obey. The fact that the disobedience on display here has been going on for years without our knowledge merely exacerbates the crime.
Williamson insisted that the culprits are being let off easy. We took their claimed good intent into consideration and refrained from assessing fines or recommending prosecution. Rather than lamenting our interdiction of their illegal scheme they should consider themselves fortunate theyre not headed to jail.

It still irks me that those witless baboons destroyed all that delicious BBQ.
“Let them eat saltines!”
No satire at all. See this story from Fox News KC:
Mrs. Eagle used to be a grade school teacher. Her school was just a few blocks from a homeless shelter and a Salvation Army center that offered a place for homeless people to shower and something to eat.
She asked if the could take the uneaten apples and bananas and little milk cartons to those places instead of being thrown away and she was told it was against school policy. She was appalled at the amount of uneaten food that was thrown away every day.
Instead of all the questions about handling, transportation, and storage, the right question to have asked was: “Has anyone ever become ill from eating the BBQ or sides?” The likely answer is “No,” but that doesn’t stop govt. bureaucrats from not using common sense, particularly the inner city variety. It’s always about the govies being in a CYA mode — they’d rather see the estimated 3,000 homeless people go hungry that week than risk one incident that could make them look bad.
My wife worked in the cafeteria of several schools.
They probably threw away more food than was eaten.
It’s borderline criminal.
I don’t even think the homeless would eat some of the garbage that school cafeterias serve
Just another “JobsWorth”.
USDA at work.
Thank a big farmer’s lobbyist.
In other news thousands of children are reportedly starving to death in China.
