The real source of Team Obama’s ‘despair’ over Mike Flynn

f you thought the handwringing among the cast of Hamilton over the impending Trump presidency was bad, it apparently does not compare to the growing despair among the Obama White House team. What has them most upset? The elevation of Steve Bannon or Jeff Sessions? No, it turns out that the most “devastating blow” was the selection of a fellow Democrat – Lt. Gen. Michael Fynn – as National Security Advisor. The Associated Press reports:

As Obama hopped from capital to capital, news of the emerging Trump administration followed him, dominating news conferences and private meetings with leaders…. Each time Air Force One landed in another foreign capital, cellphones buzzed and White House officials’ faces fell as the latest news came in about Trump’s team-in-waiting … The selections deflated the hopes in the White House that Trump, faced with the awesome duty of running the nation, might tone it down after the campaign.

Of all the Trump’s choices, White House officials said it was the selection of Flynn that felt like the most devastating blow, given the immense authority the national security adviser has over matters of war and peace.

By the time Obama arrived in Peru, the creeping sense of despair among his aides was palpable.

So why are Obama aides so upset about Flynn, who Foreign Policy magazine reports “as a boy … would help arrange bus rides for Democratic voters on election days in his hometown.”

Simple. Because he warned them about the danger of Obama’s Iraq withdrawal and predicted rise of ISIS – and then, after leaving office, called Obama out for failing to heed that advice.

It was under Flynn’s leadership that DIA issued a classified report in 2012 predicting everything that has come to pass in Iraq since Obama’s withdrawal of American troops – warning that the chaos in Syria was creating conditions that could allow al-Qaeda in Iraq (now ISIS) to make a comeback and declare an Islamic caliphate. The report, dated August 2012 and obtained by Judicial Watch last year, warned:

“The deterioration of the situation [in Syria] has dire consequences on the Iraqi situation and … creates the ideal atmosphere for AQI [al-Qaeda in Iraq, now ISIS] to return to its old pockets in Mosul and Ramadi and will provide a renewed momentum under the presumption of unifying the jihad among Sunni Iraq and Syria, and the rest of the Sunnis in the Arab world against what it considers one enemy, the dissenters. ISI could also declare an Islamic State through union with other terrorist organizations in Iraq and Syria, which will create grave danger in regards to unifying Iraq and the protection of its territory … [and] renewing facilitation of terrorist elements from all over the Arab world entering into [the] Iraqi arena.”

Then, in February 2014 – a month after Obama had publicly dismissed ISIS as the “jayvee team” that is “engaged in various local power struggles and disputes” and is not “a direct threat to us or something that we have to wade into” – Flynn went to Capitol Hill to deliver DIA’s “annual threat assessment” to the Senate Armed Services Committee. He accurately predicted ISIS would probably “attempt to take territory in Iraq and Syria to exhibit its strength in 2014, as demonstrated recently in Ramadi and Fallujah, and [by] the group’s ability to concurrently maintain safe havens in Syria.”

Everything Flynn’s DIA predicted came true – and he was pushed out because people in the White House didn’t want to hear it. As Flynn told the New York Times, “it didn’t meet the narrative.”

He was right and they were wrong. Now he’s in and they are out. Hence the “creeping sense of despair” on the Obama team.

I would imagine that Barky is quite concerned over Flynn...Flynn knows where the bodies are buried and what Barky lied about for 8 years...

You can tell how good a President Trump appointee is by the distance that liberal heads fly when they explode.

I am presently reading Flynn’s book, “Field of Fight.”

Flynn understands Iran’s critical role in this war and knows exactly what Obama is doing to assist Iran. Flynn and Trump are Obama and Iran’s worst nightmare.

Indeed. The Obammunists have been hoping against hope that President Trump might be like nearly every other Republican elected in the last 20 years; namely, he would immediately repudiate his “conservative” rhetoric and traitorously stab his supporters in the back.

Boy, are the Obammnunists in for a big surprise: a Republican who’s actually gonna do the stuff he said he was gonna do!

I'm sure there were non-Democrat types predicting the exact same thing. There must be other people for this job besides Flynn. Trump should consult with the Heritage Foundation and other right-leaning orgs on a suitable candidate that can be trusted.

I just finished that great book, Field of Fight, and having read almost everything else I can find on Radical Islam, I have to admit I now have a much more thorough understanding of it all, the various threats, and how to defeat it. If Gen. Flynn is advising Trump, we will be in good shape!

Good ole DIA!

I spent 4 years in the Defense Intelligence Analysis Center (DIAC) at Bolling AFB. The Director had an office in the Pentagon, and at the DIAC a suite. Really nice digs.

I got to DIA just in time to move everything from Arlington Hall Station to the DIAC. May 1984.

Question to both of you who’ve read Flynn’s book. Do you think he will be making the case to Trump for military action against Iran if they misbehave?

They certainly have it coming, but I’m wondering about Flynn’s general outlook on Iran. Thanks in advance!

Hell, I saw that coming, and I'm an English teacher. All any of us had to do is look at what happened in Afghanistan in the 1980s after we pulled out.

I definitely believe that Flynn was chosen because he has identified the problems and has described the solutions. He laid the answers before Obama on a silver platter and got fired. He is unrepentant and correct.

Trump definitely has a strong “adviser”, now whether others (Romney?) blunt that remains to be seen.

I'm not through with the book yet, but I have the clear impression that Trump and Flynn will develop a comprehensive plan to defeat the enemy both on the battlefield and off.

Iran is a major player but it would be impossible to know at this point whether such a plan would include a direct or even indirect attack on Iran.

That said, I am confident that regime change in Iran is a part of any plan to defeat "Islamism."

As regards the strange term "Islamism," I gather from the book that Flynn believes islam can be reformed...or perhaps such a belief is espoused as part of the psyops to create confusion within the muslim world so our forces can divide and conquer.

That sunni Marxist obama creature is an evil pawn of the Muslim Brotherhood infiltrating this nation at the highest levels of government,

Huma was supposed to serve the MB shepherding Hillary along down the same path,

Any decorated American patriot, someone like Flynn represents the enemy to them,
