No effort was made to write one in so I can only GUESS that option would have been valid for itself.

I saw the same video everybody ELSE did and I looked for the guy's name and he is no longer an active politician

That's right. Doesn't matter if the guy may, or may not be running for re-election. If his name is on the ballot, people should be able to select it and not have their vote programmatically changed to someone else.
People should be able to vote for whom they want. Heck, that's the whole purpose of a write-in.
