Rigel isn't running and the machine WAS programmed to eliminate a useless vote
Dear Friends,
Thank you for visiting my campaign website. As you may know, I will not be seeking re-election this November as your representative in Congress for Virginias Second Congressional District.
My appreciation runs deep for you and each and every person who has stood with Teri and me in what will have been a seven and a half year journey of seeking office and serving. We will never forget nor fail to be humbled by your belief in us, and your support of our effort to serve our country. Mindful that I work for you and committed to finishing strong, I remain Yours in Freedom,

But that would only nullify a vote, not make it into a vote for somebody else.
That machine was miscalibrated, probably on purpose. Touch screens are well-settled technology (otherwise you couldn't type on your phone). Either that machine is very old, or it was hacked.

Absolutely false.
That's not this year's ballot. The candidates this year are Scott Taylor (R) and Shaun Brown (D).
So if one guy drops out, why does the machine default the selection to the other guy? IMO,It should just take the vote that voter intends it to be as that vote will be irrelevant later on. Instead, by defaulting to the unopposed person, it artificially boosts the number of votes for the guy running unopposed. I would want to know if someone gets in with a large number of real votes or a thin number of votes. What happened back when there were mechanical machines ..did the elections personnel remove the name of the person who quit running from the punch cards (or plate on the machine, or did they disable something in the machine..lever/pin or something?
