The Arizona Fall League is for evaluating and developing talent. Coaching for the purpose of winning is secondary if considered at all. Especially with Tebow, they are looking at his instincts.
AFL teams are each made up of players from different organizations so the won-loss record isn’t important.

Mr. Tebow is a good, Christian man. He just needs to realize that God’s plan for him does not include baseball.

A number of NFL insiders said that Tebow outright rejected the idea of playing fullback, tight end or linebacker.
Looks more like 2 for 10 with an RBI and seven strike outs.

I’m not sure the AFL was a great place for Tebow to start. It’s a very advanced league, often serving as a showcase for top prospects who are about to make the leap to the majors. Granted, time his not on his side and he needs get though the system quickly if he is going to get through at all, but I thought starting in low-A just to get his feet wet would have been a good idea.
Tebow has shown very poor judgement all around, from refusing to consider a change of position to stay in the NFL, to making a baseball bid late in the year instead of early in the year so he could have had minor league ABs. He’ll be 30 years old before the next minor league season is over.
Tebow had better hope that Kevin Cron doesn’t get hot and isn’t waived.

Someone in MLB commented that Cron is keeping a very low profile!
Cron, a Southern League All-Star, is still considered a prospect at 23, and has shown real power in a few seasons in the minors.

Don't look at this from a Tebow perspective look at it from a Mets perspective and you will see the AFL was the perfect place for Tebow to start.
He is not a 20 year old that can be brought up through the system for 3-5 years. He is 29 and the clock is ticking on him having any type of career so the Mets have to see what he has to offer and they have to see it right now against the best competition possible.
Tebow is too old to start out at Low-A and be worked through the levels. At worst he has to show the Mets he is a viable option to start out the season at AA and move to AAA by mid to late season.
if he does not project out as making the Major League level by mid-2018 at the latest then there is no reason what-so-ever for the Mets to invest anymore time or money into him.
So, in that respect playing against AAA and ML ready players is the best gauge the Mets can use.
Sure, but I’d think even the NFL minimum $450k would be an incentive. Even an NFL bench player with a big attractive personality can make a lot of money with endorsements and such.
Hard to believe he doesn’t have a bright future, just maybe somewhere he didn’t anticipate.
(Inadvertently I posted this elsewhere, and hopefully re-post will be permitted.) Please, Friends, retire the idea that Tim Tebow should have switched to fullback. He is a massive target who (without threat of pass) has trouble getting to the line of scrimmage, let alone beyond.
Could he play tight end? Probably, if he pursued it with determination. But why should he. He scored 32 touchdowns in 16 NFL starts. You can count on your fingers the guys who’ve done that. (Not Brady; not Manning; all of them high draft picks, carefully groomed, and allowed to throw INT after INT.) Threw for 19 TDs with just 9 picks. (Two of those picks were Hail Marys at the end of the game.) Over 5.5 percent of Tebow’s throws went for TDs, an outstanding ratio. Why not even higher? Because he was (with threat of pass) such a deadly runner in the red zone.
Tebow’s QB play didn’t win any beauty contests, but his play was extremely efficient. Protected the ball. Put to rest the nonsense that the Broncos had a strong defense and carried Tebow. Broncos were 2d WORST team in 2010. Why not WORST? Because Tebow started last game of the 2010 season for “interim” head coach Studesville and beat the Texans (16 of 29 for 308 yards and a TD, plus a TD on the ground.) They were on their way to worst in 2011 when Tebow came in at half-time of Game 5 and helped the team turn itself around. In 2011 season, his receivers Decker and Thomas (also in their second season and returning from injury) dropped 17 and 14 percent of their catchable passes. Bronco defense gave up THIRTY-FIVE points in first half of playoff loss to Patriots. THIRTY-FIVE. Broncos’ defense was helpless and gave up; couldn’t stop Gronk AND Aaron Hernandez. Tebow played with cracked ribs. He was never given another chance to show what he could do (except playing quite well for the Patriots and Eagles in preseason). John Fox without Tebow or Manning is a dumpster fire. See Chicago.
People at Freep have strong minds and should resist the media narrative that this Christian never could play. If you didn’t see him play, try watching NFL Rewind. As a former, avid, 35-year Bronco fan it broke my heart that Elway ran Tebow out of town. I watched Elway’s rookie year, and Tim’s first starts were manifestly better. The NFL strangled its own Babe Ruth in the crib
He is within his rights to refuse the position change and live with the consequences. As for baseball, he knows the odds are long, but he wanted to try it. I'm sure the timing was based on when he decided to try and how long it took to prepare. When he was ready, he asked if anyone was interested. It would have been great if he tried three years ago, but he didn't get the bug until recently.
