IMHO there are two ways this can play out. The one the democrats want is that Trump is abandoned by the GOP, he becomes progressively defensive, and his candidacy is relegated to the dustbins of history. The other scenario is that this results in Trump taking all the gloves off and throwing caution to the wind - with an all out no-holds-barred fight over the final month, with so much dirt being thrown around that the winner will be determined by who winds up less dirty. In that scenario, I don't see the Clintons coming out on top.

Trump needs to have a series of fireside like program length chats with the voters the last two weeks of the campaign—a chance to really project his personality, sincerity and principles.
