This week the Justice Department confirmed that Harold Thomas Martin III, 51, of Glen Burnie, Md., has been arrested by the FBI for stealing highly damaging, secret information while working for the NSA. Mr. Martin was an employee of the consulting firm Booz, Allen & Hamilton. Edward J. Snowden was also a Booz, Allen contractor at the NSA. Snowden leaked surveillance programs of Americans and foreign nationals to journalists before taking asylum in Russia.
Martin was arrested in secret on Aug. 27 after an FBI search of his home, two storage sheds and vehicle turned up a mix of classified paper documents and digital files stored on multiple devices. The agents recovered a large amount of classified information including Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information or SCI. The agency estimates that Martin had many terabytes of information. The agents also discovered classified documents that had been posted online, including computer code, officials said. Some of the documents were produced in 2014.
Sensitive compartmented information (SCI) is a type of United States classified information concerning or derived from sensitive intelligence sources, methods, or analytical processes. All SCI must be handled within formal access control systems established by the Director of National Intelligence. (DCID 6/1 1.1.18). To access SCI or be read in, a candidate requires a formal need-to-know and be at the appropriate classification level.
FBI Agents interviewed Mr. Martin after the raid. He initially denied having taken the documents and digital files but later "admitted'' his guilt upon being confronted with the seized materials. Mr. Martin admitted what he did was wrong and that he should not have stolen the material.
According to Agents, Mr. Martin does fit the profile of an insider threat.
The only thing missing was the basement server.

Booz, Allen and Hamilton. Isn’t this the same outfit Snowden came from?
Yep, same company. Might be interesting to know if they ever met.
Yep
No intent, move on.
Meh..!
Thankfully, he didn’t have any bad intentions. So let’s tell the DOJ “No reasonable prosecutor” should go forward.
Once upon a very recent time there was this well-connected woman who, as Secretary of State, violated federal law by using an UNSECURED private email system located in the basement of her home to send and receive TOP SECRET and HIGHER messages. There is reason to believe that an Iranian who had helped us with intel on Iran’s program to build a nuke LOST HIS LIFE when messages about him were intercepted.
Oh, did I mention that she also sent and received many thousands of emails to unknown domestic and FOREIGN recipients for only God knows what purpose since she had over 30,000 of them scrubbed, NOT with a cloth as she once humorously quipped, but with software called Bleach Bit, rendering the messages permanently and eternally UNRECOVERABLE!
During that period, while earning an annual salary of around $187K, she and her hubby saw their net worth soar to well over $100 MILLION. I guess they ate their lunches at their desk out of sacks brought from home and used public transportation. Save a lot of money that way.
When called before the Bar of Justice(actually not a bar but a chalk line on the floor to be easily stepped over), after telling a series of increasingly preposterous lies only her friends the fools in the Just Us Department and morons in the general population would believe, her final mea culpa was I MADE A MISTAKE.
Those who were actually paying attention could almost hear the gavel come down and the judge say You, dear lady, are FREE TO GO!
Now comes some poor schlub working as a government contractor who was arrested by 24 armed FBI types. The same NY Times now helping the woman described above to become president offers this report:
The contractor was identified as Harold T. Martin III of Glen Burnie, Md., according to a criminal complaint filed in late August and unsealed Wednesday. Mr. Martin, who at the time of his arrest was working as a contractor for the Defense Department after leaving the N.S.A., was charged with theft of government property and the unauthorized removal or retention of classified documents.
Mr. Martin, 51, was arrested during an F.B.I. raid on his home on Aug. 27. A neighbor, Murray Bennett, said in a telephone interview on Wednesday that two dozen F.B.I. agents wearing military-style uniforms and armed with long guns stormed the house, and later escorted Mr. Martin out in handcuffs.
We have just learned that Mr. Martin’s lawyer has filed a one page, 5 word motion to dismiss:
HEY, HE MADE A MISTAKE!
We should soon know how that worked out for Martin!
DOUBLE STANDARD? WHAT DOUBLE STANDARD??
Yup. It says so in the article...early on in the e cerpt posted
Thanks. I’m at work. I haven’t had a chance to read the article. I saw the title of the thread and it reminded me of Edward Snowden.
Sorry, I just reread the thread. You’re right. See what happens when you don’t read through the thread you miss the vital points. Thanks again.
I think the question needs to be asked: damaging to whom?
Clinton? High-level officials? The bureaucracy? The average citizen?
I suppose thats better than being gunned down in a snow filled ditch.
It’s a thorough article. Am impressed with your knowledge of details
That is what happens when you do not give the Clintons and Comey their cut. You get arrested.
