Time Warner Cable versus ATT Uverse
wally_bert

Posted on 10/05/2016 12:53:52 PM PDT by wally_bert

ATT was in my neighborhood today promoting U-verse.

I haven't had any experience with it and have been on Time Warner for a long time. Is Uverse any better than Time Warner?

Time Warner over the past year has been a disappointment in a lot of areas.

I'm more interested in data and internet than TV and plan to keep the POTS line.

ATT offers a dedicated 24 meg line. TWC is 20ish and a lot of times I don't think it's that much. It's probably shared through the area. I've run speed tests and got anywhere from 15-19.

I have never had Time Warner Cable.

My daughter in Toledo has ATT Uverse. Does not seem to particularly be a fan of it.

Wide open west just installed a big overhead cable going past the front of my property. Anyone have any experience with WOW?

I could get by with high speed internet and over-the-air channels. I think I will.

OK, so quick summary, cable is faster than DSL, fiber optic is much faster than cable. Problem with cable is that as more users come on the main service line, the speed is split, like multiple water hoses connected to a single line.

As to UVerse, you can get DirecTV over cable as opposed to Comcrap, Time Warner selections.

I’m alright with ATT Uverse. It’s the stupid 40 minute questions when you attempt to get an account with them such as SSS etc.

I have TWC(Since I live in LA) which is now Spectrum..we used to pay 141 for TV/Internet/Phone..internet speed used to be 200mbps, now they dropped us to 100mbps AND we pay more money(Now its 167.50) so with Spectrum, you pay MORE and get LESS..my only other option is Directv, and they only have AT&T internet which is total garbage especially here in LA..so they know how to keep you and raise your monthly bill

We had a terrible service issue with ATT Uverse just a few weeks ago. Our service went out and it took them 24hrs. to determine we needed a new modem. That they overnighted to us, for my husband to install. He’s a programmer. He installed it correctly, and it still wouldn’t work. That’s when we started hearing cockamamie stories about it could take 24 hours to ‘download”. On day four of no service, they finally decided they would have to break down and send a tech to look at things. He found the problem, a shorted wire, outside at the box. He was 3 hours repairing that, and needed another tech to deliver a part. That new modem was never going to finish “downloading”. Four days without the internet, phone or tv. It spurred us to investigate Time Warner. We can get more channels for $100 a month less with Time Warner! Uverse internet speed is not impressive.

I’ve had both,

ATT wireless TV transmitter came in handy at the time. Went back to TW when Uverse jacked up their $$. I appreciated their DVR which at the time could record or watch up to 4 channels. Their 18 MB tier internet was rock solid.

Switched back to TW and love their DVR which I can watch or record up to 6 channels, it was a $3.00 a month update. I have not watched a commercial in months. My internet is 30 down 5 up, I also have a home phone which I need for my wife and sister to use because cell phone service in bad at my sis in law’s home.

I can watch TV on PC and Tablet which eliminated need for the remote transmitter.

My cost is $122.00 a month plus fees and taxes

I just retired from ATT and I have Spectrum. $90/mo for cable + a faster internet. 12 month contract. ATT steers us toward Direct TV for 2 years. As a vagabond living no more than 3 months at a time anywhere the cable tv seems like a better offer. My cable box went out after 30 days and they came back out the next day to replace it. I did enjoy Uverse when I had it. The 4 recordings at once was nice. Spectrum charges extra for a wifi modem and a dvr. Hope this helps.

My understanding is that in order to get the best service for the lowest price you have to play Time Warner against ATT.

Whatever one you currently have, switch. Especially if the other company is offering a discount for new subscribers.

When your discount is about to end. You need to look and see what the competitor's price is. If it's a deal then you can either switch, or you can call your current provider and threaten to switch unless they continue your discount rate.

If they don't believe you, then switch otherwise you get to keep your current service at the lower price.

Unfortunately you need to repeat this process yearly, or every time your discount rate expires.

My understanding is that if you show you are willing to switch, then not only will you tend to get lower prices, but you will also tend to get better service and connection speeds.

Been with both you gonna have problems here-n-there with both. So I just play the ‘specials’ deals one off the other at end of contract period and focus on cost savings since both of them are about the same in regard to issues. I will say U Verse seems to come out to de bug whereas YOU have to walk in dead modems to the TWC location. Which is like going to the DMV, so UVerse has THAT, going for it....

I cut the cable and my house smells better not having all those skunky cable channels.

Spectrum lowered our internet plan since there is no 200mbps with Spectrum, so instead of upgrading us to 300 they downgraded us to 100 LOL..so they gave us a 20 dollar credit for the hassle..we have 1 DVR box and 3 Digital HD boxes.plus we have phone and internet through them..went from 141 to 167..we have the Spectrum Silver package(That includes, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax) for Gold it would be more money..they said to call in the middle of the month to see about new promos. My sister has Directv but has TWC for internet..basically the price for cable has gone up..for months was seeing commercials how the price would go down and the features would be better but not here

I switched to Uverse once it was offered in my area. They wouldn't let me order just internet and phone. So I ordered TV as well and then immediately dropped it. Service has been pretty consistent. My plan says up to 24 Mb, and my speed down ranges 19 - 25, and up is 4 - 4.5. My Son's had wished that pings were faster, but they still do a lot of online gaming.

I'm wishing for fiber to the house.

At&t just ran their 1 gig line in front of my house and sent me a card to hook up...

Google has spray painted our yard for Google figer for the 1 gig download.

I have Time Warner now and it sucks beyond belief. Everything about them... bad connection, bad service, bad billing..... I would only recommend Time Warner if they were the only choice and then hesitantly!!!

"Time Warner cable is like an all-you-can-eat buffet, a good one with the pudding. AT&T Uverse is like Tofu dinner, one you have to hit the drive-thru on the way on home. No pudding...Time Warner cable, it't the obvious choice, people."

So goes the commerncial, which is well done.

Moved out of the area where I had Verizon FIOS - best service ever; phone, TV, Internet - no down time ever.

Tried AT&T but their bill was twice as high as their quote so I cancelled.

Be careful of special promotions because these companies will have you under contract for 1-2 years and a penalty for cancellation.

It is a jungle out there.

I have Verizon Fios which,I think,is quite similar to U-Verse.My service is really expensive but the internet speed is good (it's 60 IIRC) as is picture quality on the TV.

This is exactly what my wife and I have been doing for ten years. We shuttle between Comcast and AT&T based solely on price for the speed/media package.

It is far cheaper to do this than to ever stick to a single vendor.
