Ford Motor Co (F.N) Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. said on Wednesday he has met with Donald Trump to talk about the Republican presidential candidate's extensive criticism of the automaker's investments in Mexico.

Ford told the Economic Club of Washington that he thought Trump's criticism of the No. 2 automaker's foreign investments were "infuriating and "frustrating" because of the company's extensive investments and employment in the United States. Trump has threatened if elected to impose hefty tariffs on Ford imports from Mexico.

Ford told reporters after the event that the session with Trump was a "great meeting" that took place a few months ago....

Yeah, and we now have thousands of tariffs on the books.

Tell you what, son: Put an end to the stifling domestic tax and regulatory situation FIRST. Let that sit for a year or two, see how it shakes out.

THEN, come back and talk about trying to tax your way to prosperity.

I bet you won't even bother ...

There you go, dragging the Bush crime family into this. (If it’s complete, it’s got to have Prescott (namesake for George P Bush) in there somewhere.

Notice NO criticism of Trump’s stance comes from Democrat politicians...

Well, the Democrats can always depend on the media to do their job for them.

Uversabound :" Disaster!! How much will these problems cost????

The base rate of the U.S. autoworker (assembler) starts at $28.00 per hour (c/o UAW).
The Mexican rate is less than 20% of the U. S. hourly rate.
There are 18 auto plants in Mexico with another 4 plants in the planning stages.

Maybe talking to Trump about what needs to be changed so these businesses can stay is a smart move!

What needs to be changed in the U.S. is to pay assembly line workers $26 a day, like they pay in Mexico. Think Trump can arrange that?

So did General Motors - they owned Opel.
Both had operations in Germany going back decades.

So, Ford Jr. Proposes to close the plant and move it to Mexico but opines that there will be no effect on the workers at the closed plant.

Hmmmm......one is left to wonder what the hundreds of workers will do each day when they show up for work?

There are 26 R-T-W states the Ford could have gone to.

How many of those have workers that will hire on for $26 a day?

We may have them on the books but our tariff rates are so low they barely raise any revenue. Nice try.

We need more(higher rate) tariffs and less income taxes.

You could eliminate all regulations and taxes on US manufacturing and the offshoring would continue because that is not the reason they are going in the first place. Regulations and taxes serve as political cover for "international labor arbitrage".

When is Ford, Carrier and Nabisco going to announce retail price reductions now that little brown people make their junk?

Ford says it isn’t a problem because they will make other cars here. Screw them, its a zero sum game. Every Mexican Ford sold here that wasn’t made here, was a job exported.

Where I live you'd get thousands.

It’s true, the difference will pay for a lot of mistake fixing (though not bring back anyone who died because a car failed, to be true).

However how much of this can go on before it becomes obvious that we’re eating our seed corn.

We need more(higher rate) tariffs and less income taxes.

We need less taxes (and less government) generally. Eliminate the income tax entirely FIRST ... AND get rid of the stifling regulatory state... THEN talk to me about tariffs.

I'm sure you believe that.

now that little brown people make their junk?

I'm starting to understand where you're coming from.

Tariffs were the main funding source of out government for over the first 100 years. And there is nothing at all wrong with protecting domestic industries with tariffs.

You know, like that prominent communist Reagan. He put huge tariffs on Japanese motorcycles and saved Harley. Then later he put a big one on Japanese electronics.
The damn commie.

And Harley eventually became a boutique brand, which it could have anyhow with smart enough marketing. You can’t easily import boutique.

At this point one has to decide if they are a Patriot or a Globalist. You've chosen Globalism.

You are going to vote for TPP Democrats and Hillary, right?

Sad.
