I’ve gotten dozens of these calls, and I like to f@ck with them. They usually say they are from “Windows” or “Microsoft” something or other and they have said they have detected that my computer is infected somehow.
I have asked them in response on several occasions:
If you’re who you say you are, what is my router IP address (BTW, it is NOT the default setting)?,
If you are who you say you are, what is my MS product license number, you should know it since you called me after ‘detecting’ my computer......,
If you are who you say you are, send me an immediate confirmation to my email address, which you should know now,
Give me my home address that goes with the telephone number you dialed (you, specifically dialed that number yourself, right?),
and on and on. They don’t know what to do in response.
lol. Just tell them you have an Apple!
Had one tell me he from Florida. I said, oh, you’re right next to Colorado then. He said yes. I asked what city? He said, Boca Raton. I asked what county? And he said he wasn’t authorized to tell me that. LOL
I told him it’s not that your not authorized, its because you don’t even know what a county is—because you’re calling from sh!thole in India or Pakistan, not Florida. I tell them Vishnu was really pissed at him for lying and trying to steal money. Sometimes I tell them I just had one of their cousins for lunch.
“and on and on. They dont know what to do in response.”
I keep a phonetic outline of Hindi insults I got off of Google translate in just such cases.
I used to get those calls. I'd let them go through the whole thing like "We determined through your Event Viewer in Windows that you have multiple errors." I would say " Wow, How can I see this ?" They would step me through the process of viewing the event viewer. I'd tell them that it was amazing they could get all that info from the Windows Event viewer on my PC, especially since I am running Linux. The next sound I hear is a click.
