Obamacares expansion of Medicaid reduced employment in those states that participated in it by a statistically significant extent, according to a recent study by Georgetown Universitys Tomas Wind:
I find a significant negative relationship between Medicaid expansion and labor force participation, in which expanding Medicaid is associated with 1.5 to 3 percentage point drop in labor force participation. As Wind notes, Obamacares Medicaid expansion provided an unusually good test case for the effects of a government program, since it went into effect in some states but not others during the covered period. Ironically, despite its enormous cost of billions of dollars annually, expanding Medicaid provided little benefit for recipients in terms of health outcomes.

Further down in the article, the author gives examples of a single 62 year old with income just under the 400% FPL cutoff. That person wouldn’t receive the full $7836 subsidy. It would more likely be about half of that. It is still a good chunk of change. The couple both 62 earning just under 400% FPL would forfeit ~$10K in subsidies if their income goes over 400% FPL.
It’s bankrupting states as they force illegals and unwanted refuges on it and on us and don’t subsidizes it. And more US Seniors and Disability patients are being dumped or their ability to obtain is curtailed. A single Senior with just SS and Medicare is SCREWED especially those who had low wage jobs to begin with all their working life.
How are you supposed to live on just over $500 a month on disability when the illegals and refugees have more rights to FED and State aid than you do, and you worked and paid into the system? You make just a tad to much for food stamps to boot. I’ve a friend in this situation. The sorry SOB she’s married to has Hep C and is an Alcoholic, so doctor won’t treat him he drinks most of what he earns.
I remember reading a newspaper column by Bruce Williams some years back. A widow wrote asking for advice after her husband died. He didn't leave her much of anything accept SS and that wasn't enough to live on. His suggestion was to get roommates to share expenses.
The flood that wiped out a big chunk of Nashville did as much damage in West TN, it just didn’t get the air play, entire south side of the Navy base was under water and evacuated including housing.
So was much of the small town and most of the 3 trailer parks had orange X’s on all of them, smelt terrible for weeks on end.
They lost everything and ended up in a rent to purchase 2 bedroom trailer, she has no where to go, much less take in borders. Rock and a Hard Place and no where to turn. He doesn’t even pay the lot rent on time, 2 months behind. She hasn’t worked in 2 yrs, couldn’t if she wanted to, she has spent a lot of time in the hospital in the past 3 years. And has more surgery to face soon and she hasn’t even hit 60.
And you can’t trust borders like you use to.
Sounds like she is getting healthcare. Is she on expanded medicaid or obamacare exchanges?
Been paying BC/BS through his job, does not qualify for medicaid, and has to wait 2 yrs for Medicare to kick in. If she leaves him she loses that. He hurt his back at work BLEW and drank up $50K settlement instead of paying off bills.
SSD made her get her own bank account.
Yikes...
