We break from presidential politics to bring you this important news from the world of medical research: Scientists are close to developing a pill that delivers the concentrated benefits of resveratrol, the component in red wine thought to be beneficial to health.
Scientists on opposite sides of the globe appear to be getting closer to harnessing one of red wines most elusive health-giving ingredients and putting it into a pill.
The ingredient, resveratrol, has been touted for years for its ostensible powers to prolong life and protect against a range of ailments including heart disease, diabetes and Alzheimers disease. Studies pointing to those benefits have been performed in laboratories on yeast, worms, fruit flies and mice, among other organisms. (snip)
Testing those benefits in humans has proved more complex. Resveratrol occurs naturally in red wine at such low concentrations, and in combination with so many other substances, that studying its health benefits among wine drinkers isnt practical. And purified resveratrol is broken down in the liver so quickly that it must be given at very high concentrations to prove effective. (snip)
A recent human study that suggested resveratrol could slow the progression of Alzheimers used a daily dose equivalent to the amount in about 1,000 bottles of red wine, says Scott Turner, director of the Memory Disorders Program at Georgetown University Medical Center. (snip)
Now, scientists hope to overcome that problem by increasing the potency of resveratrol at more moderate doses They are developing a pill that combines purified resveratrol with other compounds in wine in an effort to mimic the drinks naturally-occurring synergies. (snip)
Alberto Bertelli, a professor in the department of biomedical sciences for health at the University of Milan, says what happens to resveratrol in red wine when it enters the body is sort of a mystery, but he believes that alcohol could help it get into the bloodstream more effectively.
Read the whole report if youd like, butt while theyre still working on it, I suggest you try the treatment with proven results. Enjoy the 1000 bottles of red wine.
When theyre gone, if youre not in perfect health, refill the prescription.
THIS MESSAGE HAS BEEN HIGHLY APPROVED BY THE WONS
And just a suggestion: given the state of her health, I think Hillary should switch to the red wine therapy.
And not that its a biggie or anything butt between BO, MO and HIll they have over 23 years of experience occupying the White House. Doesnt the Office of Protocol teach the proper way to hold a wine glass anymore?
Maybe the non-drinking candidate can show them how it should be done.

“Scientists are close to developing a pill that delivers the concentrated benefits of resveratrol, the component in red wine thought to be beneficial to health.”
This is why the general public has a low level of respect for science. What genius decided to take the fun out of working toward better health?
I harnessed it years ago by drinking red wine every day. :-)
Great! Now there's going to be 999 more threads following this one!
“999 bottles of wine on the wall, 999 bottles of wine,
“Take one down, pass it around, 998 bottles of wine on the wall.”
Now take it! Keep it going!
;^)
I tend to believe there are benefits to resveratrol. There are already products out there that advertise on the radio all the time.
However here is a muted contrarian view. Just throwing this out there. It doesn’t trash resveratrol but dampens the excitement just a tad especially if it involves mega-doses of the stuff. Of course if someone has Alzheimers - what the heck?

“988 bottles of wine on the wall, 988 bottles of wine.
“Take one down, pass it around, 987 bottles of wine nthe wall.”
Just don’t hold that bottle by the neck. The sack will fall off of the bottle! Hold the bottle by the middle. LOL!
Nice punctuation, Elcid! I am not the grammar police, but you dun gud!
Ah, like cyclamates? Or was it saccharin?
