Everybody has an AR because of its reliability, durability and flexibility. Besides owning a shotgun an AR is the next best thing for a home defense.
This video highlights Richard Nance (GunsandAmmo Editor) and Dave Spaulding (Handgun Combatives) discussing tactics and techniques using an AR-15 which any lawful citizen can learn.
They talk about best ways to enter and clear a room while not extending your AR out there. But if you do there are some weapon retention methods that can be used to retain your AR. See the video here. How bout you all, do you use your AR-15 for home defense?
I need a safe space from the title alone! Just kidding, obviously. We used to have an AR and several dozen other firearms until that tragic SCUBA diving accident. Lost ‘em all. Every single one plus physical metal.
EeeK! An AR-15!!! It causes bruised shoulders, distraction and temporary PTSD!!!!
They are so black and loud.
[They are so black and loud.]
Yes, the walnut ones are softer.
We need both the “is it because I’m black” meme and a Trigglypuff meme.
But the black ones look bigger #OhNoSheDidnt #OhYesIDid
I use them all for home defends; and for hunting and target shooting also.
Although I love and own the AR (I've got ones chambered in 5.56 and 7.62) I don't agree with this statement. Inside the confines of a home, I'd prefer a handgun with hollow points to a rifle. Especially if there are multiple family members in the home. An AR round will penetrate drywall like a knife going through butter.
if I had any firearms, I think I would prefer first, a shotgun, 2nd handgun, only 3rd a long gun.
It’s a bazooka! eek! eek! eek!

There’s a BLM joke there somewhere...
“...drywall like a knife going through butter. “
Do some research, you might be surprised what it does compared to say a nine.

Yep. Mossberg 590 next to bed using 0000 Buck. 00 Buck is too much and will punch through most walls and could cause family injuries.
I keep my 40 S&W loaded with collapsible bullets. They will not punch through a wall. Expands on impact to 1.5x. Perfect for home defense but you just have to remember that these bullets have there limits. If you ever tested a hollow point on denim or cotton you would see that it never expands. The most hollow points will plug and basically become a jacketed bullet. Drywall/paneling also plugs them up.
Now if all else fails, the long gun I keep at my bed side is a 45-70 loaded with 400 grain. Whenever it comes to time to use this there will be nothing that would stop it from one end of my house to the other while my wife drags out the ARs from the safe and the box of 600 rounds loaded into mags ready to go.
Noted genius and gun advocate Joe Biden suggests getting a double-barrel shotgun and making “blam! blam!!” noises.
