Hillary wasn’t going down alone. She’d take everyone she can with her and she’s been collecting data such as FBI files for decades.
Comey either decided
* As a DC-insider he had lots of friends Hillary would take down and he wanted to protect them. If there’s dirt in his past, he should assume she has it.
or
* A constitutional crisis would occur with Hillary’s takedown of dozens of congressmen, and admin officials (maybe Obama) and exposure of the corruption in legislation and treaties. He decided to make an ass of himself rather than let that happen.
Also
* He’s now set for life with either Rs or Ds in power. Lots of people owe him. Any other decision would have guaranteed no work in DC or government for life. This alone may not have swayed him but a bonus for making the decision he did for whatever reason.
