FORT HUACHUCA U.S. Army Garrison Fort Huachuca will conduct a Change of Command Ceremony between Col. Thomas A. Boone (outgoing) and Col. James W. Wright (incoming) at 7:30 a.m., today, June 21, on Brown Parade Field.
The community is welcome to join us for a colorful, traditional military ceremony.
Boone assumed command of the U.S. Army Garrison April 30, 2014. He stays at Fort Huachuca for a new assignment at the U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence.
Wright joins us after an assignment at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
The Fort Huachuca garrison commander functions much like a city manager. The commander is responsible for running such diverse operations as emergency services, utilities and recreation facilities.
(Memorial) will provide a colorful closing to the ceremony with a dramatic, 1880s-style pistol charge down the parade field.
R U taking video?
I’d enjoy the spectacle of Change of Command from my humble chair in West Texas.
ASA Vet, fyi!
Changes of command at Ft. Huachuca are pretty cool. Brown Parade Field is the old ceremonial field in the center of the original part of the post and is surrounded by the original garrison housing and the old barracks that housed the 4th Cavalry Regiment during the Apache Wars.

I recall when we called that job the post commander. He was an O-6 on his last assignment. The Colonel usually had about 26-27 years of service and was not going to make BG.
I know Fort Huachuca all too well.
ASA and INSCOM vet here. Holabird, Devens, Meade and Huachuca.
and the Ft Museum w/ displays of the old Cav. Uniforms & equip. (Non Hollywood style).
“He was an O-6 on his last assignment. The Colonel usually had about 26-27 years of service and was not going to make BG.”
Sometimes, those guys make good CO’s with zero career goals, and if they decide to retire on a positive note/
The outdoor temp today might hit well over 100 degrees!
Yes, he would have been an O-6 on his last assignment. He most like has been an O-6 for six or more years. This is typical as they usually go to where they want to retire or the closest post to that location. My father was an O-5 when he was first assigned to CONARC at FT Monroe, VA. Our
neighbors were mostly Air Force or Army officers too, as I could walk to the back gate of Langley, AFB then. FT Monroe was about a 15 minute drive east. The retired Col. near us had been Post Commander on his last assignment. He was a WP type plus the local WP recruiter. He also taught math and French at a local high school military academy. I got good advice from him.
Was there in 1984. loved it.
You see hoe ,uch mre it’s chnged you’l Love it it and Sierra Vista even more.
