It is stupid to destroy valuable property when it could be sold. Are you saying because something was once sold to the government, it should never be sold to the public.

I do not understand your reasoning. Sold to the public, the pistols are worth about $500 each. Made into scrap and smelted, they have negative value. The metal at most is worth pennies and it costs money to move them.

I do not understand your position. Please elaborate.

The government bought .45s for the World War II army, where we basically won by outproducing everyone else. They never bought any more after that...they had waaaaay more than enough for the Cold War military, MAP program, plus DCM sales. It was hardly a case of “ordering too many”.

I’ve had mine since 1961...my son and I went to a range on Ft. Carson a few months back and it still works beautifully after thousands of rounds through it over the years...every PATRIOT should have one!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since the taxpayer paid for them, in the first place, the taxpayer should have an opportunity to buy them as surplus. We’ve been doing that for decades, or at least until the Clintons came to power.

Back in the early 60’s, as a lifetime member of the NRA, I was able to purchase a .30 carbine for $20 and ammo for a penny a round...thousands of which were gone within 2 years.

Maybe it’s time to stop. We’ve been doing a lot of things for a long time. That is really a bad excuse.

You guys are missing my point. We are supposed to be the people looking for ways to save money and make government smaller and more efficient.

Instead, we complain because we can’t git ours. We all have to change.

Custom 1911 builders can do wonders with these. Here's an example of a custom 1911 builder:.

“Why this guy is allowed to keep the Republican label utterly baffles me”

I would love to take it from him. Kelli Ward is running against him in the primary.

Any other suggestions would be welcome.

My point is that to sell them to the public there is a cost associated with it. If it is overall less expensive to sell them great. But it entails a lot more than just having a tag sale.

My guess is that it’s a lot less expensive, overall, to just melt them and re-use them.

While that’s not the answer a lot of people want to hear, it’s probably the truth.

Why? Where do you think production companies get their gear for movies? How about airplane utilization and collectors? Small businesses can use furniture, etc. No telling how many constructions companies buy old jungle matting and equipment. Most small airports use surplus vehicles for operations an even snow removal.

Maybe because it’s been done a long time means it’s a good system? The taxpayer should know they have a shot at the equipment the government buys, when it’s done with it.

It was terrible. When I suggested accuracy was poor because it rattled like a box of rocks since I knew I was a better shot than that the guy said if I ever needed it I would probably be better off with the box of rocks.

A couple years later I was shooting IDPA twice a month so I know all about what one can do with a 1911. You can do a lot with them but you can just buy new and get better with less hassle.

I agree with McCain for once. Send them to me. I’ll only charge $1 each for my time.

At least give them to the Kurds.

This x 1000. Not sure the 1911’s would be very useful to them, but the old battle rifles would have another shot at our nation’s enemies again.

If I were President the Kurds would be armed to the teeth. I mean ARMED to the teeth. They are the most lethal weapon against ISIS.

Could be a good idea. I have no use for a pistol that will only fire one exact 240gr cartridge.
