Wow. I can respect that effort of Kurt. A lot of troops came home due to their work. Thanks for the photo. I never knew about that piece of history. Kurt is another Dobe. I can see why you like that breed. :)

Since nearly everyone here knows why I started liking them, I’ll tell you, too.

When I was 10, my pedo uncle started on me.

For years, I was hiding in the house, terrified to go outside.

When I was 14, I saw one of the Daring Dobermans movie on late night TV and I got down and begged God to give me a dog like that, who would protect me.

Less than a week later, a stay Dobe showed up in my yard, and it’s not like we had herds of them running around here, so it was truly *amazing*.

No one claimed him and from the day he came there, he went with me everywhere and I was able to go run the ridges like I always had, before.

The uncle never touched me again.

I owe my life to those dogs and I have spent over 40 years, repaying the debt.

For about 12 years, I did my own Dobe rescue.

Saved well over a dozen, at least and kept some of them, myself.

They are my heart and my heroes.

:)

Try to get a copy of “War Dogs Of The Pacific”.

It’s interviews with the men who handled the dogs.

I cried like a fool and many of them cried, too.

Untold numbers of soldiers were saved by their dogs then, and are still being saved now.

:)
