If the “wealthiest Americans” can afford it, then why not tax wealth, instead of income?

I need reparations for the inflation of the Dollar over the last 50 years....

And to have capital gains corrected for the yearly (real, personal basket of goods) inflation.

except Obama has busted the Social Security bank by giving away “disability” benefits and more goodies.....to millions of people who do NOT have serious disabilities
... just corrrupt graft is all.

(I am NOT critizing anyone who does have a disability and is receicing SS money..... indeed I have long advocated increasing those payments....to be paid for by tossing the fakers and frauds OFF the list...we do this and we will be able to afford to be considerably more generous to those with disabilities who really do need our help). Obama stands for fraud on a mass scale. I stand for an honest assistance program (and a generous one) for those Americans who actually do have substantial disabilities. There’s a BIG difference. )

There has been one SS increase in the last 4 years under Obama’s Administration. My last net increase (SS increase minus Medicare premium increase) was about $21/month. My rent went up $25/month and will increase another $25/month in October.

Adding more participants without adjusting the dispersal rates is rather counter-productive.

Welfare benefits have risen significantly more under Obama.

for our newly arrived muslims and south americans....oh nevermind they already get more than the average taxpayers who work their entire life paying into social security.

Cut taxes. That will allow people to save more for their retirement. (Whether they do it or not is another story)

Privatize part or all of Social Security and allow everyone to have their own separate account outside of government.

Neither of those things solve the retirement problem since the biggest problem is many people won’t save for their retirement. But it helps and at least gets government out of the way.

Obama suggested the country pay for expanding Social Security by asking the "wealthiest Americans to contribute a little bit more."

Translation: "I want to squeeze working Americans even more to support non-working Democrat voters who may or may not even be here legally"

The EVIL Wealthy Contribute to SS all their working lives and are already barred from collecting it because they are successful.

Taxation without Representation.

Trump has been smart enough not to put SS reform as a campaign issue. Trump says no reduction in benefits thus taking away an issue from the Dem playbook.

Yes, SS will go bankrupt without reform. In fact, it has been running in the red since 2010. However, unless the Dems join with the Reps on a solution, it makes no sense for the Stupid Party to take the lead while the Dems are talking about expanding benefits.

Gee, if only he’d been president for the past 7.5 years. He might have had enough time to work on such a project.

Leave it to O’Beaver to throw this obvious bank-buster out there, just as a wedge. It’s just in time for the election cycle, and obviously will not go forward; it’s just a great demagogic way of making senior citizens drool over a demwitted wet dream. Probably 90% or more of seniors wish they had an increase in monthly benefits; how better to entice them than with this pie from the sky?

This is crass, despicable and cynical.

The wealthiest Americans can’t add enough to the SS pot to make more than the merest dent in the solvency problem and using such money to “expand” SS will bring the time of insolvency more rapidly on us.

How many times have we heard the same mantra, “We can tax the wealthy a little more”?

At what point do the so called wealthy finally say they can’t pay anymore, then what?

The crime was turning the fund into a pay as you go fund. If the government had not stolen the contributions and allowed the money to earn interest over the decades before a person retired, the fund would be very strong and solvent.
