Lego has always had a policy of not doing army temed sets just for this reason. They do other themes like space and star wars and other sets that would make no sense not to have weapons - star wars, western, ninjao, vikings/castle, etc.
It is hardly a pro-arms company. Often the items that can be used as guns were also pieces that could be used for other thing, such as small engines/rockets, or something else.
They are dangerous.

These poor victims of Hoplophobia need a safe place where they can learn to cope with their irrational fears. I hear that Caracus Venezuela has very strict gun control. If they can’t afford to travel over seas then south side Chicago, Baltimore and south east DC also have very strict gun control.

In contrast, the Lego Brickumentary (documentary on legos) included a guy who makes more realistic lego weapons mostly for people creating re-enactment scenes. So you can buy Lego AK-47s, Civil War rifles, etc.

Maybe the kits would be more acceptable to the left if Lego devised a Political Re-education Center playset. It could have Lego barbed wire and guard towers. The guards would have little Kalishnikovs and RPKs. They could have quarries for the prisoners - I mean, imperialist pig dogs-to learn the proper value of labor.
The kit could also have removable shoes and tiny replica Lego blocks so the guard could force the imperialists to walk on them to simulate torture.
