A group called the Asian American Coalition for Education plans to file an official complaint tomorrow with the federal Department of Education and Department of Justice noting that Yale, Brown, and Dartmouth have unlawfully discriminated against Asian-Americans in their admissions policies.
The Coalition, which is composed of more than 100 local, state and national organizations, claims the colleges have the lowest acceptance rate for Asian Americans, and maintain quotas for the (racial) group.
It also points out that Asian-American enrollment at Yale has declined despite the number of college-aged Asian-Americans more than doubling since 2011.
This is the first such complaint against the elite Connecticut university.
The Yale Daily News reports:
A summary of the complaint was released on AACEs website on March 14 and has since been signed by 115 Asian-American organizations.
In a statement to the News Saturday, University Spokesman Tom Conroy reaffirmed the necessity of Yales admissions policies in creating diverse classes of students.
All relevant factors are considered in the context of the application as a whole, and the decision on any applicant does not turn on any one factor alone, Conroy said. In conducting a holistic review, applicants are not disadvantaged in the admissions process on the basis of race or national origin.
Affirmative action policies at selective U.S. universities have received criticism in the past, with opponents claiming that race-based admissions violates applicants civil rights. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule later this spring on Fisher v. University of Texas, a high-profile case challenging the use of affirmative action in higher education.
The director of Asian American Studies at the University of Maryland, Janelle Wong, is quoted in the Daily News article as saying the Coalitions complaints can have a detrimental effect on a universitys commitment to racial and ethnic inclusion.
It can be intimidating to be accused of having a biased admissions system, she adds.
Intimidating? Well, maybe the Yale admissions department can request a safe space.
Asian community will soon have to learn that they too are a bunch of racist pigs
Anybody challenging the acceptance rate of Asian Americans at UC?
Yale is where Hillary went and she helped with the Black Panthers there, in fact, she had a big helping hand to get them into the dorms there...
No wonder the place is a crap hole...
Well, I have heard lots of anecdotal evidence, of students of Asian ethnicities, with eye popping GPAs and SATs, being denied admission to elite universities. But at the same time, blacks with lesser qualifications are admitted.
Clearly many others have noticed such patterns, which is why we see this complaint.
“creating diverse classes of students”:
Black students who have no academic qualifications.
Good for the Asians—they are penalized for being intelligent.
.
.
creating diverse classes of students:
Bell Curve.
Asian is the new white and gender studies is the new basket weaving.
Are they arguing for merit to be used instead of race based quotas / diversity metrics? Or just a larger diversity quota?
Good for them. They have had enough of this silliness. It is effecting their job prospects, not to mention ego. They should feel insulted and neglected.
Good. Whitey needs to do this too.
“Good for the Asiansthey are penalized for being intelligent.”
And also working very hard, going to classes, studying, and coming from two parent families (father and mother).
I would guess that stats would show white kids getting excluded at far greater levels than any minority...
When a non-black beats up a black, it’s holy hell.
When an Asian gets beat up...?
Oh, shut-up, and quit being so fussy..! You’re famous for being stoic and forbearing, so go BE THAT...!
There are two extremely different standards.
I hope they use the living sh*t out of the Ivy League, and keeping out asians is not confined to the Ivy League.
I cannot understand why, though, there aren’t 10x the number of Universities in say, Hong Kong and China than there are now —the educational supply is absolutely not enough.
They need to be able to stay home and those who are American need to face fair standards, i.e. no affirmative action for blacks and others.
And this in closing —WHY are so many Asian democrats..?
Shut out of universities, movies, sports teams...their businesses have to comply with stupid regulations...it’s totally stupid for them to vote “D”.
what you have to admit is that many “majors” require little academic qualifications....they muddled thru and are passed, especially if they’re black..
The spectrum done as a Bell Curve would be a good way to look at it. One could see it as a curve showing the the flight of thrown object, where the beginnings start from totalitarianism, apogee at the curve’s maximum with Constitutional rule, and drop down to anarchy. Maybe a better representation would be a sign wave where anarchy would drop below the X-axis and then, rise up to totalitarianism where it would rise up to the maximum again with the rule of law and Constitutional rule. I hope that type of curve does not predict our course.
Another case of white privilege, no doubt.
