I closed down my Facebook page over a year ago. I thought they wanted too much info about me, and most of the posts are trivial BS. Also, I got tired of Facebook suggesting new friends, etc.; and I didn’t want a prospective employer asking to see my page.
Facebook is to constructive community interaction what the back fence and party lines were to previous generations: a tool for enabling voyeurism, gossip, and often damaging intrusion into the lives of others.
Just ignore trending. Do not think I ever clicked on a trending in 2 years. Could care less which way the herd of sheep is being led. The problem is Facebook has to generate revenue somehow, and pushing ads and products is the only way they can. News stories nowadays are mostly products. For example, climate change is all about the carbon credit market, wind turbines, solar cells and LED lighting.
