One of Trump’s most enduring and arguably most endearing campaign lines has been his promise to treat American vets better. When Trump dropped out of a Fox News debate in January he held a separate event at which he raised money for veterans. But three months later, Trump’s campaign adviser for veterans, Al Baldasaro, doesn’t seem too concerned about it. He told the Daily Beast, “Im not concerned about it, because I know [Trump is] an honorable, honest guy you guys just want to say, gotcha.”
To be fair, Baldasaro is not a Trump staffer. The real problem is that anyone who has attempted to track down the $6 million raised has been unable to find more than about half that amount that was actually delivered to veterans’ groups. From the Daily Beast:
Since the fundraiser, numerous media organizations have investigated whether the charities have received the $6 million. The investigations span the ideological spectrum: the progressive MSNBC and the conservative Weekly Standard have been unable to find all the funds; as have The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and The Daily Beast.
The money simply hasnt been found.
In early March, CNN was able to track down $2.9 million, citing the Trump campaign. In early April, The Wall Street Journal traced $2.4 million of the promised funds.
That CNN total of $2.9 million was based on a list of 29 veterans organizations shown to the network by a Trump spokesperson, so that seems to be the best case scenario. However, when CNN checked with those organizations one of them said they had not seen any money yet and the majority refused to comment:
When contacted by CNN, only nine groups confirmed they had received payments totaling $800,000, one group said no payment had yet been made, and the rest either refused to disclose contributions or did not respond to CNN’s requests for comment.
A Trump spokesperson told CNN contributions would continue as money came in from donors, but why wait for money to come in?
Trump made a big point of raising this money for veterans. That was an honorable thing to do. He could do vets another solid (and maybe gain a little of his declining favorability back) by stepping up and advancing the money from his own bank account if necessary. Doing so would be a win for his campaign and a win for veterans.
OK, that’s a game changer for me. He’s dun. The Don is Done. Done Done.
Nay, methinks Hillary and Hussein may have pilfered the missing monies much as they do all charities they can steal from legally, it’s the rules is what they will say.
The CEO of our company has made an annual $100k pledge to a local university since 2008. Then it takes months of wrangling with the CEO to actually send the money to the university.
I think it’s terrible to tease Veteran’s charities with money and not deliver. Ted Cruz should be ashamed of himself for dangling $1.5 million in front of the veterans and then pull it away. How low can a candidate get?
CNN did a report on this, their report stated several of the Veteran charities management declined to speak to them. So if they are not willing to speak to a reporter how can he/she know if they have received money or how much they have received?
Right. Blindered pack mules can’t see the forest for the trees.
We have a winner here! Post of the day..
Anyone have an idea of how much was pledged and then not actually donated? Anyone have any idea of how much Cruz has raised for our Vets? Anyone care? Anyone notice when Trump stated we needed to take care of opur Vets as a matter of fact because it's disgusting how we treat them? Anyone else think it's obnoxious that we need charities like PVA/Wounded warrior and other fundraisers to help take care of our Vets? I recall when Trump said we needed to have a new model to replace Obama Care and to ensure we take care of our Vets, many just scoffed that he was really a proponent of government control over health care and they ignored the meat of what he said. I guess it makes it easier to compare Cruz to Trump if they knock the good stuff and manufacture "scandals" against the guy who has literally been putting his money where his mouth is.
Apparently Hot Air is a Never Trump blog as per a search asking if Hot Air is Never Trump:
Excuse me I defended Trump and am a supporter.
I sent my pledged amount as I have a disabled vet son and can’t thank Trump enough for spotlighting the needs of vets.
>How much of what Cruz raised for vets has been delivered to charities??
$0.0. However Cruz will take money from anyone!
The dazed and confused kamakruzies hunker down in their bunkers. After being routed in NY they await the further Trumpian onslaught in the NE sector. Intelligence reports are bleak.
Their west flank (CAL) is collapsing and the center (IND) is failing to hold.
Trying to find some hope they tune their radios in to Tokyo Ted. He exhorts them to fight to the last in the republican civil war. Wonder weapons are coming the radio crackles, that will turn the tide in the second, third, etc ballots.
Double agents are infiltrating the Trumpian forces, which will betray the Donald in Cleveland. All the kamakruzies need to do is keep hoping so that Tokyo Ted can complete his theft and betrayal operations to eliminate the Donald. The kamacruzies, their eyes glazed over, hug their radios in states of bliss.
Tokyo Ted then sets aside the microphone satisfied. He has given his kamacruzie suckers, hope for another day. But he is troubled. Should his underhanded strategies by some miracle work, he wonders what then?
There are occasions he recalls the civil war between Sparta and Athens and how soon after, they were conquered by the Macedonians. He fears for his chances leading a shattered republican remnant against their common enemy, the goblin queen and her army of orcs.
But, then he casts a wicked smile. Revenge against the Donald is all that matters. After that, who cares?

What a ridiculous topic. Last month it was “only 10% of pledges in”. Now it’s up to 50% in and people are still complaining? The monty is turned over when the pledges are met, minus whatever administrative costs there are. 1/2 turned over so far is vastly more than most charities ever turn over.
Creepy.
Meanwhile Trump does not smoke or drink or do drugs and never has.
This is just a bunch of hot air writing about two other “news” stories with no new reporting at all. Bottom line, they have no idea how much has been collected or dispersed.
If it hasn’t been said before i will say it, Donald Trump is fully aware that most charities keep most contributions for expenses, he won’t throw money at bogus charities just to appease some whiny group, no he will wait until his experts have ascertained they are valid and truly will make sure veterans get the monies properly.
Everybody wants to get on the bandwagon getting their moment in the spotlight or cash from Trumps agenda, especially his veterans agenda. Bad people coming running out from under the rocks looking to cash in.
