I don’t think that perverts are going to be able to go hang in the ladies room with no legal fear.
I think if some trans dude goes in there, does his business proper, washes up and leaves like everyone else, probably ain’t gonna be any problems.
If some obvious creep goes in there and starts perving up the place and freaking people out or assaulting people, he’s probably going to run into serious problems.
Right now a man can walk into the man’s room and do what I described in the above paragraph and run into serious problems.
Right now a man dressed as a man can walk into the women’s room and a) behave in a proper manner, or b) hide in the stalls and lie in wait in order to victimize someone.
I think it’s best to take this situation on a case by case basis on what someone actually does before assuming that they are there to commit a crime.
I have to take my mom to all of her doctor appointments. She is terrifically mobility handicapped. The right side of her body no longer works, she’s a heavy gal, she can walk with a cane, but mostly she is in the wheelchair. She also suffers from incontinence.
So when we are at the doctors offices, she has to make sure that her bladder is as empty as it can be otherwise disaster can occur.
In order to get in and out of her wheelchair, she needs my physical assistance. This means that I go into the ladies room to help her out of her chair and back into her chair. This is a major operation that requires physical strength.
I am a 6’4” giant mf’er dressed like a man in the ladies room, and yep I feel out of place, but there’s nothing I can do about it. Gotta help her.
I sure hope no one assumes I’m in there to commit dirty deeds, but I bet someone somewhere has wondered WTF I am doing going in the ladies room or what am I doing standing outside the ladies room with a wheel chair.
So I do not go into ladies rooms where there is the potential for numbers of ladies to be in there at once, like at Target for instance. But at the doctor’s offices she goes to, I have no choice but to do this. It’s my duty and honor to help my mom, so that’s what I do.
I found myself in the same position you described helping my mother before her death.
Real life situations never seem to be recognized by the people so willing to pass a law to “correct” a problem that doesn’t exist just to say they “did something”.
Anyone perv’ing in a bathroom, regardless whether it’s a male or female restroom is already violating existing statutes so there’s no reason to pass more restrictions that would apply to everyone just for the sake of appearances.
What’s next? Gun control because guns are sometimes used to commit illegal acts?
