It has nothing to do with Trump’s fumble. He fumbled because he is a political novice and not an insider. The backfire comes from the fact that without asking the public to cast a single vote in a statewide primary or caucus, the insiders come to the smoke-filled room and decide who gets the delegates.

That Cruz relishes that aspect of the process, calling it his “superior ground game” just makes voters that much turned off to the establishment. That doesn’t make it illegal, but the optics of it stink to high heaven. Terrible marketing for the party, and by association, Cruz.
