PHILADELPHIA – Thursday marked the start of “The 17th Annual White Privilege Conference” and this year’s theme is "Let Freedom Ring, Re-Imagining Equality & Social Justice in the United States."

The annual event is aimed at promoting the theory of White Privilege – that American society is hopelessly stacked against minorities and the only way to fix the system is for white people to acknowledge their immense "privilege" and repent.

"Our vision is to build a community committed to dismantling white privilege, white supremacy and oppression, every day, everywhere," wrote Eddie Moore Jr., founder and president of “The Privilege Institute,” which organizes the event.

How much they, as a race, pay in taxes minus how much money we spend on them. This includes to EBT, Section 8, WIC, Food stamps, justice system (court appointed lawyers, law enforcement, prison, etc.), etc.?

Yes, yes, my white privilege. Let's start with my graddads. One fled Ukraine after most of his brothers had their index fingers amputated by their mom to keep them from being drafted into the Czar's army. They lived on potatos and didn't have shoes until they were teenagers. Pogroms were common. My mom's dad worked steerage to get here and once here worked 18-hour days as a stable hand until he could afford to live in an actual apartment. My dad got here at age 2 with his family. They were so poor he had only two left shoes. They lived 6 to a room in a Lowell tenement working in a linen mill. My granddad saved every penny and was finally able to open a grocery store in which he worked 18/7 until he died. My mom and dad were the first in their families to go to college (my dad had to work in the grocery 8 hours and day and still managed to earn an engineering degree after 5 years. My mom finished college after raising my brother and me. Good thing, because my dad dropped dead when I was 15, We lost his business, our house, and almost everything else.

So much privilege, so little time.

My family is “privileged” to have enjoyed four generations (since my grandfather arrived in North America without financial resources in 1919) of folks who have focused on hard work, education and raising strong and productive children. Those qualities, not the color of our skin, are the real bases of any success we have had and are necessary for the success of any nation. When the urban poor, of any hue, start focusing on them, they will cease to be the urban poor. It’s about culture, not color.

Good point, and that brings me to mind of what we—who happen to have been born white—ought to do:

Laugh at them. When they accuse you of micro-aggression, acknowledge it and tell them you do not intend to stop.

Tell them that being offended by the fact that you are white is not your problem but theirs.

Remind them that you do not EVER go down without a fight, if that’s what they’re getting to.

When they say you have white privilege, agree and laugh at your own fortune! Tell them that “White’s alright!”

In essence, if you can’t beat ‘em; join ‘em.

So, as I see it, we are going to improve the poor and underprivileged by tearing down the white privilege which provides the resources for what care and comfort they now enjoy. It appears to me that a lot of people in this county are just too dame lazy to think for themselves. My idea of improvement would to lift up those at the bottom, not tear down those at the top.
