You know, HL27, your instincts are right on about Manafort.

I reran the interview multiple times.  It was only two minutes long, and WOW, this guy said a lot and wasted not a single word.  In a few sort sentences he:

• Praised Cruz while exposing his campaign's great weakness. 
• Made light of his insertion into the Trump camp, acknowledging the great campaigning already accomplished.
• Made clear that his boss is Trump, without losing any measure of his own authority.
• Instilled confidence that Trump will prevail and win before the convention.

This guy is the epitome of "art of the deal".  In Manafort, Trump has teamed with a true peer, a man of great gravitas and political skill.

Gee, Donald.  Can you please appoint this guy as Secretary of State or Official Slayer of Chinese Dragons?!

An Emerson passage seems to fit:

I keep remembering Trump telling us in his rallies, “ I know people that can made deals, good solid deals, you might not like them, but they know what they are doing” and when I listened to this guy, he is good, solid and did you watch his eyes...cocky Chris Cuomo knew he best not mess with him, and he didn’t...

Can you imagine a guy like this sitting there talking to the Chinese delegation? Or the Japanese Delegation, heck even the Mexican Cartel? Oh to be a fly on those walls!!!
