The French women’s rights minister, already under fire for provocative comments relating to Islamic dress for women, is now caught between Air France management and unions in a row over a requirement that air hostesses wear headscarves when the airline renews flights to Iran this month.
Following the easing of sanctions under the nuclear deal, Air France is resuming three weekly flights from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris to Tehran on April 17 after an eight-year suspension. And management of the airline want female flight attendants to comply with Iranian modesty norms.
The unions are incensed over a management memo saying air hostesses wear long trousers with a long jacket – rather than skirts – on the flights, and that during stopover periods, “outside the bedroom, women must wear a scarf and a wide and long garment to conceal their shapes.”(continued)

I could see an airline trying to enforce that. But I could also see stewardesses not bidding for the route at the same time.
I think back when stewardesses were stewardesses in the golden age of flying, they’d adapt to the culture norms of the locales they were flying to. It’s good for business.
Well heck, let the woman get stoned for looking at other men if that is the way you feel about it. Woman are not toys for Iranian men or culture. No woman should be forced to make that flight.

Emirates Airlines stewardesses wear very attractive uniforms with long pants and a combination hat and scarf arrangement. They are very well tailored and attractive. Maybe that’s an answer.

What happens to the sovereignty issue? If you are on an American airplane/ship/etc...., it is treated as if you are on American soil. (At least it used to be, I haven’t flown for years.)

It is going to go way beyond that. When I was a flight attendant one man actually asked me if I was ‘clean’, meaning was I menstruating. I told him I was not clean and had nothing to do with him or his ilk the rest of the flight. How will women be able to attend to male passengers if they have to abide by Sharia law. What about female pilots? What about medical emergencies involving a female FA and a male passenger? What about somebody refusing to follow the flight attendants instructions because she’s a woman? Air France should tell Iran to screw off.
I cant remember the airline but wasn’t there a flight with a female captain and a male first officer and the male crashed the airplane because the woman was in a position of authority over him? It seems I remember hearing about that maybe in the eighties or early nineties? These people need to be careful flying into savage territory and letting the inmates run the asylum. It won’t end well.

Iran needs Air France more than Air France needs Iran and Air France needs to set the rules. If Iran doesn’t want to abide by them, then they need to look elsewhere for air service.
