I know what you mean.

That would seem some sort of a tell. As you say, perhaps it’s not.

The statement itself was just strange.

I work at X restaurant, but I’ve never been in the place.

Here's what's wild. The TRUTH about her brother is better than this fiction she told. He is a doctor, head of pediatric orthopedic surgery at a hospital! (He has gone on missions, Haiti after an earthquake, to perform surgeries, which is itself heroic and admirable.)

So why put a SPIN on it, "My brother is a missionary in Haiti." Reminds me of something Bill Clinton would do. The TRUTH would be as good and maybe better than the lie, but instinctively---or perhaps she was coached---Heidi embellished the story and no kidding, this is a case of what the meaning of "is" is. She's an MBA but sure talks like a J.D.

Pure and simple, it was SPIN. Doctors are greedy and rich; missionaries are good and caring. I think that was the reason for the spin whether is was instinctive on Heidi's part, or calculated. That sounds like what liberals do---put a PC twist on reality to make it more palpable to their PC friends.
